Neville was smiling as he walked down the corridors, it felt good to smile. But that cheerful smile was quickly erased by a blow from Crabbe and Goyle, shouldering him as they passed, laughing as he hit the ground. Neville sighed. "Some day...Some day they'll be the ones who get pushed down," he thought. He went to pick up the gum wrapper that had fallen from his hand, which he had had in his pocket, when a pale, white had grabbed it first. "A gum wrapper? But you aren't chewing any gum, unless you swallowed it when they pushed you," came a dreamy, inquisitive voice. Neville looked up to see none other than Luna Lovegood. She held out a frail looking hand and arm, offering to help him up. "Thanks, Luna," he said, taking her hand. An electric jolt jumped between their fingers. "Ouch!" Luna giggled. "What's so funny?" Neville asked, rubbing his fingers absentmindedly. "My dad just did an article about this in the Quibbler," she replied, staring at the shinning, aluminum gum wrapper. She held it out for Neville. He took it and carefully put it back in his pocket, tugging his pocket's opening taught so as not to crinkle or bend the wrapper too much. "About static electricity?" Neville asked, looking her in the eyes. Her eyes were slightly glazed, but they sparkled as she spoke, they could have lit up the darkest dungeon. "Sort of, see, it's actually caused by Miphops." "By what?" Neville asked, his face crinkling in confusion. "Miphops, they cause magic to ark between to people who have chemistry," she said with a smile. Neville turned red, he knew that she didn't mean it suggestively, but it was a touch embarrassing. "So, why did you have that gum wrapper?" she asked, changing the subject as she began walking down the corridor. Neville's heart raced, he didn't tell people this very much, but Luna seemed...different, non judgmental. Maybe it was time for him to trust someone with his secret? Maybe he should trust Luna?
He sighed. "It's alright, if you don't want to talk about it," she said, clearly sensing his unease. "No, it's alright," he said, taking a deep breath. "My parents were part of the Order, you-know-who tortured them for information-," he trailed off, it was emotional for him. He loved his Grams, but she wasn't his parents. They had given so much, with nothing for them in return. "That's terrible," Luna said. "Yeah," Neville mumbled,"They're in St. Mungo's now, their minds couldn't take it." Unconsciously he stopped, his hand now in a fist around the gum wrapper. Luna stopped once she realized he had, turned, and strode back to where he stood. She took his hand. "They were very brave, you should be proud," she said gently. "I am," Neville said quietly,"It's just-," Luna cut him off. "Hard?" "Yeah," Neville nodded. "Whether they're sane or not, I'm sure they love you and are very proud of you. They are always with you, whether you know it or not or the Dr.s know it or not," she smiled comfortingly. Neville smiled back. "Hey, Luna, do you want to go down to the lake and study Herbology with me tomorrow?" Neville asked, caught up in the moment he forgot his nerves, except for the pounding reminder in his chest that seemed to be working its way up his throat. Luna looked at him for a moment, then said,"I'd love to, Neville," and skipped off. Neville just stood there, in shock. "It's a date," she called as she rounded the corner. Neville's mouth dropped.
