Preface

James departed the train with a glum manner, leaving Hogwarts after his fifth year for the summer holidays should have been a glorious day; no lessons, no more OWLS, no snivelley Slytherin Snivellus Snape- but that would also mean no Lily Evans.

James believed that he had succeeded in making her never talk to him again- or shout at him for that matter. He was getting to total silent treatment, as was Sirius (partner-in-crime), as was Remus (he is a PREFECT! Why did he not put a stop to it?), as was Peter (if he didn't do something then he would have done if she hadn't have stopped them!).

After the last exam Lily 'the perfect prefect' Evans had caught the marauders teaching Snape a lesson. Granted he had done nothing wrong, but he could have. That was the way things went; one starts it and the other retaliates, Lily Evans finishes it and James et al are in the wrong regardless. There was one thing that he could be thankful for. After that debacle, Lily was no longer speaking with Snivellus as confirmed by an eavesdropping session late last night.

"Lily! Wait!" Cried a greasy mop. The redhead walked on, head held high.

Just as she was about to go through the barrier the muggle world, James' eyes met Lily's and he could tell she was as distraught as he was. Lily had lost her childhood best friend. James had lost his number one crush. And it was all James' fault.
