Rain pounded on the marble of the palace walls, in a torrential downpour. Vera sat at the large maple desk that the countess had provided for her, upon Vera's request. Every so often, the brown haired girl would conjure another candle, just as the first would flicker out. It was getting far to late into the night for her to do anymore investigating, so she blew out the already flickering candle, and proceeded to walk to her bed. The room was dark, save for the occasional strike of lightning, cold,as if the rain was seeping in through the stone walls. Vera sat on the comfortable bed, and twisted her hair into a thick braid, and dragged it across her shoulder.
Vera had been laying in bed for a good while, before she became restless. After sighing for the 3rd time, she stood up, wrappin the thing silk robe around her was meant for someone much taller than her, because it dragged the floor far behind her. It was pretty, yes, but in cases where she had to run for helife, or defend herself...she would probably die. After conjuring a ball of light in her hand, Vera made her way into the hallway. She passed the staircase of the two white dogs, who perked up at the sight of her. Vera rolled her eyes, and patted the dogs on the head, before sending them back to her staircase. She could feel the chill blowing down from it, and heard the haunting whisper of her name. The deep gravelly voice unnerved her, and frightened her away, before her curiosity could get the better of her.
The sound of her bare feet padding on the cold floor, was something both familiar, yet distant. As if it was something from a dream, a long time ago. The rain had begun to lighten up, as the brown haired girl wanders onto the veranda. The smell of fresh rain and wet dirt, infiltrated her nose, as Vera made her way down the stairs into the garden, that was awash in the glow of moonlight.
