Title: I can see you

I can see you, sitting up at the head table. No Dumbledore any more, he passed away just after the final battle. Not from any wizarding method, no, but from a heart attack. Shock, said Madame Pomfrey, can take down the strongest contender. Professor McGonagall sits in his place. She didn't want to try and take the place of a lifelong friend, but it was a promise, a duty she had to fulfil.

I remember just before the battle, when I thought I would die. You thought the same. We had no idea I would survive, or even if you would get through an attack from those you worked both with an against for so many years. But we took advantage of the few moments before the storm broke over us. You comforted me with your warm presence at my back. You made me feel safe with a gentle kiss.

You left me hurt both inside and out when the battle ended, but you did not wait for me.

We never spoke of that one kiss we shared in a moment of desperation. But I remembered, and though your eyes are duller and your soft black hair is now streaked with grey, I still love you. Whatever you feel for me.
