It had been precisely 2 months, 4 days, 20 hours, and 19 minutes since Hermione Granger, the love of his life, had dumped him. And so Ron sat, slouching on his bar stool, staring at the bottom of his glass, replaying their last conversation over and over.
She had broken up with him whilst they were standing in the middle of the sidewalk, oblivious to the other people passing by and the rain that was falling in heavy sheets from the sky. Hermione hadn't tried to sugarcoat it, and didn't say that maybe they could get back together in a few months. She didn't say they could still be friends or simply that they just needed a break. No. She had simply said that she was done with him, and tired of his obliviousness to her career and other crap like that.
Long story short, Hermione Granger had broken his heart. And even now, 2 long months later, he still wasn't over her.
He missed the way her eyes sparkled when she was about to tell a secret or say something slightly mischievous. He missed her laugh and her dazzling smile. He missed her, whether he liked or not.
Ron left a sickle on the counter to pay for his drink and stepped out into the cold autumn air, and turned onto a road lined by trees starting to turn orange.
Ron walked along the grey sidewalk, still wondering how things could've been if he'd been better to Hermione. But it was no use dwelling on what could've been. Still, maybe there was still some small chance that Hermione wasn't quite over him either, and would come around and tell Ron that she couldn't stand being away from him anymore and that they were truly meant to be -
Ron stopped.
Across the street, he saw two figures, one tall blonde one, and one shorter brunnete one. Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger, holding hands.
Hermione. His Hermione.
They looked like two people in love, with Draco's arm slung around Hermione's shoulder. He couldn see that Hermione was blushing and her cheeks were pink, obviously not from the cold.
Ron's heart shattered. It shattered at the thought that Hermione, was no longer his Hermione, no matter how hard he tried to deny it. It shattered at the thought that 2 months, 4 days, 20 hours, and 36 minutes after they had broken up, Hermione had moved on, while Ron was still trying to hold onto whatever piece of the past he had left.
Draco kissed the top of Hermione's head and she giggled. They both looked giddy in love. Ron scowled, feeling sort of sick inside.
At least she's happy, thought Ron. Even if she's with another man.
And at that precise moment, Ron Weasley decided to let go, and he kept on walking.
