Things Left Unsaid
Ben had never seen Kevin E. Levin so depressed before. He refused to allow tears to escape his eyes. It looked like he very much wanted to express himself, however. Ben was curious after Gwen had come down with an illness. She had not been able to go out for a while. Kevin was always by her side. Ben checked up on the pair frequently. Kevin did not say much about Gwen's condition. Only that she was getting weaker. He assured Ben that everything was fine.
"I'm still curious about Gwen's condition," Ben asked to Kevin one day. He viewed him sitting on the front porch. His expression was very sullen and tired.
"She's going to be fine, Ben," he told him. "She just wants some peace and quiet."
"I don't understand why I can't come in and view her for myself," Ben complained.
"She wants to be alone. She told me to go away, too. She just wants to handle things herself and not be bothered. It would put more stress on her," Kevin said. He frowned. He was hunched over. The bags under his eyes were very noticeable.
"Gwen is being selfish!" Ben said.
"She's not! Let her do what she wants!" Kevin growled. "This is one of the reasons she didn't want you coming around. You'd just annoy her."
"I would not!" Ben complained. "Fine! If she's going to be that way, then maybe I won't stick around!"
He stormed away. He got in the car and left.
Kevin sighed. "Gwen is dying from a rare Anodite disease and didn't want you making her last moments into a heated argument. If you would have been less selfish and rude in life, maybe she wouldn't have thought that."
He closed his eyes and began to sob into his hands. He got up and walked back into the house to be with Gwen in her final moments.
The End!
