The Doctor sniffed as he brushed away the tear.

"Humany wumany," he chastised himself.

Turning with a spring in his step, he shut the TARDIS-blue door and stepped into the Pond house.

Rubbing his hands together, he let the smells guide his direction. Entering a room, he exhaled with a grin as he viewed the festively decorated table and then beyond.

You're missing something, his brain warned as he looked at the Christmas tree, lights twinkling brightly.

One... Two... Three...

Four.

"Hello sweetie."

The grin on his face growing impossibly wider, he turned to find the familiar curls and the knowing smirk of River Song.

His wife.

Wife.

Perhaps it was the stirring of those human emotions within him, but he felt such a man as he strode across the room and pulled his woman into his arms and kissed her.

Parting when the need to breathe became paramount, he gently brushed curls from her face.

"You naughty girl," he censored, his eyes never leaving hers.

"And don't you love it," she retorted back, even through tears of her own

Their lips met once again as Rory stepped into the room. "Oh seriously guys, get a room."

"Leave our daughter and..." Amy was right behind him as she faltered. "... son-in-law alone."

As Christmas fell on that night, the Doctor felt both hearts swell with love.


It just needed a little more...
