A small thing that was inspired during a very mixed feelings day. Inspired, not based.

He never did express his feelings to her. He tried to once, but he backed out, being the lazy coward that he is.
Throughout all the years he was with her, being her escort around the village, Shikamaru never once showed his true emotions towards Temari. He played an act, always pretending to be a lazy, bored man who really didn't care about anything. The reality of it all though, is that he did. He cared about her. Despite this, he continued to play his act, never showing the real him to her.
So they grew, and as good friends as they were, they became distant. He wanted to stop that, but he continued to play his act.
As times change, so do people. She broke his heart, for she found someone else.
Did he show her he cared? Did he try to stop her?
No. All he did was watch and lie. All he did was walk away, even when he was hurt inside.
All he did was continue to act.
