Z.O.E

Z.O.E. by Allison Calabrese: Prologue

I walk out of the filthy-tasting hospital, blinking to feel accustomed to my new aqua blue eyes. I feel not the same than before because yesterday, Zim was my ally, and now, he's just my rival.

Yesterday, Zim and I were functioning on a previously completed assignment that would abolish Vortians completely. It was a large cylinder with curved designs and terrifying pictures. When it was our turn to present, we paced, headed to our device and we both grinned. "Hello, fellow students!" Zim said with a smile. "At the moment, Zoe and I will tell you how to get rid of these horrific things we know as Vortians!" Zim continued as each person in the class winced when they received the word Vortian come out of Zim's mouth. "Now, today I in fact forgot the dummy that we were supposed to use on purpose so that Zoe could demonstrate it for us." , Zim smirked as he put his hands behind his back, beckoning me to talk. "Well, um…" I said as I treaded forward and sighed. "We definitely didn't approve to do this and the mechanism could simply kill me-". I stopped speaking when Zim sauntered to me and whispered in my ear, "Get…in…the…device…now." He pushed me into the tube and laughed a wicked laugh as he turned on the machine. Jolts of power went over me as I collapsed into the depth of the world in the flicker of an eye.

I gaze at Irk Metropolis, approving the vast city glows and hovering Voot Cruisers flying across the midnight skies. Perhaps my life will get just a tiny bit better.

Suddenly, I felt a punch in the face. I saw Zim, smirking at me with his sharp teeth and his dark, red eyes. "Well, hello Vortian! "He said. "I thought you were probably dead by now. But, oh well!" He shrugged as if it was no big deal. Then, his eyes startled as if he got an idea. "How about everyone here finds out your special little secret? And also prove to everyone here that I will finally be the appreciated one! So get ready, Zoe! Because now is your time for your final breath, as I, the most powerful ZIM! Defeat you with my undeniable fists." He punched me for a second time, more agonizing than the preceding one. I fought back.

More spectators crowded around, some cheerful, some gloomy, some petrified. One of them was Zim's girlfriend, Kay. She had russet eyes and a purple invader suit. She stood very frigid, watching her best friends battle. Tak was there too, snickering with joy. Tak shook her head and walked away in a hurry. I wondered what she was going to get.

It was a long fight, fists and legs thrown at one another in motion. Suddenly, Zim's hand formed into a fist, and he punched a spot near my eye. My eyes are sensitive, so my eyelashes softly fell out, one by one. I was astonished as Zim yelled, "Vortian!", and everyone stared at my frightened. Tak walked in with guards behind her, pointed at me, and the guards dragged me away. That was the worse day of my life.
