Connections
"There has always been a connection between us."
The words stirred through Beelzemon's mind as he sat on the rooftop of a building. The moon glowed and made his emerald eyes pierce through the night as he watched the humans below him. But he was deep in thought, unusual for the mega virus. Being back in the Real World had made him do a lot of thinking lately, but when he started thinking about how Rika and Renamon had saved him, it confused him as to how they found him. Of course, Renamon gave just a simple reply with no detail, so he had to go a different source: Rika.
She wasn't much help either except when she paused and said, "Renamon said, "There has always been a connection between us." I'm not sure what she meant fully, or what has gone on between you two, but it seems important to her. She heard you call her. That's all I know."
Beelzemon let the small conversation run over and over in his head. He tried to remember if he did indeed call for Renamon in that desert, but his memory after the Parisimon attacked him was fuzzy. He just remembered trying to get up before Renamon and Rika appeared. Beelzemon closed his eyes. Maybe he did call for her...after all she was the one who seemed to have an affinity with rescuing him. Or stalking him. Or coming to him with any questions.
He opened his eyes suddenly and breathed deep. A connection...he thought to himself. He wondered, if he tried again, would she come? Or was it just a pity party for when he was injured and nothing more? Just saving herself the guilt of letting him die?
Only one way to find out.
Only a soft whisper escaped him. "Renamon."
Beelzemon wasn't thinking she would come, he didn't really think this connection thing held anything except maybe a one time occurence. But when he heard the soft landing of paws behind him, his heart jumped a little in his chest. He turned to see the golden fox standing behind him, her blue eyes looking at him a little surprised. It was as if she didn't even realize her own actions had brought her to him.
He stood up fully, still amazed she was there. The silence between them seemed to last forever when Renamon broke it. "Do you need something, Beelzemon?"
Her question seemed unsure to him. But he answered, "Is there a connection between you and all the others?"
He grimaced when he realized the tone of jealousy was there. Was he jealous if she did? And why would he be? He didn't have time to sink lower into his maddening thoughts when Renamon answered him.
"No. Just you and Rika."
"Why me?" Beelzemon asked firmly.
Renamon closed her eyes. "I don't know myself. I just know it's been there since we met. You could even say it's gotten even stronger as time has gone on. Almost matching my connection with Rika."
Beelzemon looked away as she reopened her eyes. What she was describing he had heard of and even seen with the humans. A sour taste was in his mouth when he said, "Didn't think Digimon were supposed ta' be able ta' love."
"Perhaps we're evolving beyond digivolution as well." With that last statement, Renamon disappeared into the night, leaving Beelzemon with only words to ponder once more.
