Prologue
Ever since he discovered his Quirk, he knew he was destined to be a Hero. A Great Hero, one that the whole world could look up to, a hero that stands tall no matter the circumstances, that always smiles and says, "It's okay now, for I am here!" His greatest Idol was what he wished to be. To follow in his footsteps, to give it his all, and to be the Symbol Of Peace… no matter the cost.
It was his first time doing something truly dangerous. Taking on the Sludge Villain, after quickly escaping it's grasp. He should have run away, to get help, he knew that. But, it was the small, little voice at the back of his head… chanting, screaming pleading with him to just… punch it.
And so he did. Punched it, with everything he had. And boy, was he amazed.
The villain blew apart. Globs of him here, over there, on the ceiling, on the walls, all over the floor… on the street sign a ways down the alley. He couldn't believe it himself. The sheer power he put into it, without even thinking. Defending himself, listening to that little voice. He was glad he did, now that he is seeing the fruits of his labor.
It was then, that he realized that it started to rain… stinging his now bare arm, fir his shirt was essentially vaporized by the force he just exerted. Also his arm was slightly red - perhaps because his power was never used to this extent before. He'd use it often, just not to the point of people realizing it… which, was actually almost constantly.
Always using just a teeny, tiny little bit of it all over his body to be faster, stronger, more agile than he would otherwise. It meant the difference between a nine and a half minute mile run and a six, without being winded in the slightest. Refraining from doing that in P.E. however, else he'd be caught - it was just how he always was. Prepared, ready for action, and in the case of just a few seconds ago? Necessary. To get himself out of something that would otherwise be… potentially fatal.
He didn't expect that his full strength could change the weather. Or clean the dust off of the ground, or blow a liquid-bodied villain into a billion chunks. But he was happy. Amazed, perhaps worried about the villain's life, but very, very happy.
And then when another thing popped up behind him, he shot forward a dozen meters in less than half a second, whirling around in the same motion. To say the least, the person who just climbed out of the sewer opening was startled, perhaps as much as him. His eyes widened in recognition, instantly knowing the identity of the person before him, "All Might?!" He exclaimed excitedly, as this would be the first time he's met him, let alone seen him, in person.
"Yes, it is I! All Might! Now… can you tell me what happened here, my boy? This villain had me on a wild goose chase in the sewers, I may have lost him had he not shown up here." All Might said, already eyeing one of the globs of… villain, that he was chasing up until just now with great interest.
"Yes! Ah, um, right… he, he came through the opening there, and took hold of me from behind… admittedly, I wasn't paying attention… erm, so I used my Quirk to get free once I realized what was going on, and… well, I punched him as hard as I could. I didn't know that this would happen, though." He gestured towards the 'villain' and also the misty rain coming down rather lightly, dotting his uniform. Also towards his own arm, which was somewhat red and steaming as more rain droplets hit it.
The titan of a human being looked it over, looking out of the underpass to see that the dark cloud indeed only spread over a small distance of skyline in all directions. And then back to the villain, and then to an awry piece of paper floating down from… somewhere.
"Well! I must congratulate you on this success, taking on a villain such as this is no easy task, and yet here you are, unscathed no less! Tell me about yourself, my boy, while I, eerm… collect, the rest of him."
And so he talked. And talked. And asked questions himself, and answering questions to the best of his ability. In reality, he simply was stuck on the 'oh my god All Might actually wants to talk to me' phase, in pseudo-shock about the whole ordeal. At least he was coherent, and rather well spoken as well, save for that fact.
It was around a thirty minute talk, all in all, between the two. Going from daily life to the future, Izuku readily telling the man about his desire to enter U.A's Hero Course, to spouting his own desire to become just like him, to be a Symbol Of Peace, even if he worded it differently. To smile no matter the situation, to be a hero that the world can look up to no matter what… and he affirmed his dreams. Even, actually, telling him a secret. That he personally would be teaching at U.A. starting next year.
He promised to keep quiet about that. He was glad. Ecstatic, actually. Given praise by his number one Idol, it meant the world to him. Being told a secret, one that would, undoubtedly, be a massive shock to the nation once it comes to pass. He felt… Special. And, he reveled in it. He knew that he was being served the world on a gold platter, it was truly unfair how things are. But, he already resolved himself for it. To… disregard those feelings, that he's cheating, because what he'll be doing in the future? It is more important than worrying about how he got there. This instance, this praise, was but another small event happening along the way there… becoming the greatest Hero, that this world has ever seen.
They parted ways, All Might wishing him luck, saying that he'll be looking forward to seeing him in almost a year. The other, wishing the Hero luck with his own future… that he'll blow right through whatever evil he comes across. Great Hero to Aspiring Hero, and back. Both wishing each other nothing but good days and luck, as it were natural.
Unknown to either of them, the Emerging Flame would soon reignite the old, Dying one.
"That kid…" A rather buff, blonde haired man walked down the street, wearing a white tank top a few sizes too large, and green, baggy cargo pants as well. In his hand sat a bottle of green… something, with an eye lazily bobbing about within.
His name was Toshinori Yagi, a person you'd simply believe to be a bodybuilder with a… certain likeness towards the number one hero in the nation, All Might. Long bangs in reverse fashion of the Hero, and all. Essentially a double, actually, just… not him. At least in the sense, that he lacked the unique appearance of a Titan, his art style being regular and also being a couple inches shorter. One would think he merely was a massive fan of the Hero, doing everything in his power to mimic him.
At least, that's what people who see him would think. He was glad, being able to walk around freely like this, without receiving even a second glance of questioning passerbys gazes.
He absentmindedly walked towards the nearest police station, silent in his gait. Though, he was actually thinking quite a lot right now. About the boy, about his… Power. Sheer power. Too much, to change the weather? To make it rain, even now, with small droplet slowly coloring his tank top a darker shade of white?
He's just like him. A power so amazing, so powerful… and he only received some slight muscle strain. The redness on the boy's arm was caused due to the high amount of friction it's never experience before, likely singed by the compressed air he forced it through.
He was startled. Amazed. And impressed. He seemed to have an extremely heroic, and humble, personality. From what he talked about, he somewhat knew that the world of Heroes was actually far more dangerous, and scary, than the public believes. He's cautious enough, he could tell, that he wasn't dumb enough to put his own life in danger unless absolutely necessary.
He smiled. "I may not even have to go to U.A. for a candidate. Midoriya Izuku, huh…" he muttered, but shook his head. The kid was aiming for U.A. anyways, so even if he did choose the boy… it'd be best for him to follow him. Although, he felt something was off about it… as if, choosing him wouldn't work out, for some reason.
He brushed the thought off, and kept on walking.
"Midoriya." "Bakugou." The two stood a few feet from one another, meeting up at an intersection just a few blocks away from their respective homes. "Damnit." Bakugou cursed. "Hmm?" Izuku hummed in wonder at the beach-blonde haired boy's outburst. "You… Nevermind. Fuck." Again, he looked to him in wonder, watching as the boy started to walk away.
Their relationship was always… odd. Izuku couldn't tell if it was envy, or admiration, or a strange mixture of both that the blond haired boy with an explosive Quirk held for him. He was his friend, certainly, and he also seemed to want to compete with him, but perhaps sees that… he's in a different league altogether. To have the power, the personality, the sense of justice… all in one. Perhaps he saw him as an Idol, one that he wants to surpass, but one that he knows he can't.
At least Izuku was remotely aware of this. He'd felt that way towards his friend before he discovered his own Quirk. Wanting to be just like him, but just being unable to close the gap. And then, the tables turned. He could understand if that was what made their relationship… awkward.
"Don't worry about it, Kacchan. You'll be a great Hero, just like me!" He assured his grumbling friend, who just froze at hearing that. Perhaps he shouldn't have said 'just like me' at the end. Perhaps, he should have said 'just like All Might!' or… Perhaps, a more fitting person would be… 'Endeavor!'
He didn't know how to fix what he just said, but the other boy seemed to understand it, just fine. Perhaps… sadly, he knew what he was going to say was true.
"You… Dammit. You've always been better than me, Midoriya. I know that. I want to be number one… but, I know that's impossible, with you… Heh, I suppose history really does repeat itself, I'll just be another Endeavor."
He walked away in silence after that. And Izuku knew that trying to prove him wrong would be futile. The boy's personality just made it impossible to change his mind, being the hot blooded, quick to action person he is. Always boasting, showing his superiority, yet just incapable of surpassing the final hurdle. It really was just that way, at least he figured out the impossibility of it early on, so his dreams wouldn't be crushed later on.
"I feel like an asshole." Izuku mumbled under his breath, "but he's right. And there really isn't anything that's going to change it."
All Might stood atop a building, watching the city going about it's business in peace. The sudden onset of rain had long since ceased, and the sun was slowly eroding itself on the horizon. "So, you're going to stay here for awhile, All Might?" Kamui Woods asked. "Yes, I do believe so. I kind of like it here, actually. The erm… sewers, are a little difficult to navigate, though." He said. The masked-wood hero looked to him with a questioning gaze, though remembered the commotion about the sludge villain. He probably went down there to escape, he figured. Not many people would go down there to chase a villain like that….
"Hmm." He sounded in affirment. "Good seeing you, All Might."
A/N: Hello! I just whipped this up, I didn't look too far back into the pages of Fanfictions to see if this idea's already been taken or not, but I'm sure it has. Izuku, strong from the start. All Might, not withered down into a skeletal husk of his former self. Bakugou, being on… oddly good terms with the green haired boy, in fact openly looking up to him, and acknowledging his place.
I don't know why a wrote it or where it's going to lead, or if I'll even update it! (I have a terrible history in the updates department, too many unfulfilled promises and broken schedules… reminds me, I'll have to make good on some of those eventually! I'm looking at you… King.)
Anyways, I hope y'all enjoy! Second chapter should (no promises) be out by… I don't know when. Soon? (Probably not, but maybe.) So, look forward to it! (Or not, I don't know myself.)
Oh, and I guess I should put a disclaimer. I don't own BNHA or anything affiliated to it, I just write fanfiction dammit! (Though, this disclaimer is a little late.)
Bye!
