There was a dark secret hidden in Canterlot, one that Uther swore that nobody else but the Royal family would know about. A young girl.
During his rein, Uther had had many lustful nights with women. After his wife had died giving birth to Arthur, his son, he didn't know what to do and found himself with these women to put his mind at ease. Uther made the upmost care to ensure that none of the women were impregnanted but his guard slipped with one woman. Her name was Emiline, she was a barmaid at a local taven also known as "Come 'ere, Sweetcheeks." She was very beautiful and Uther couldn't resist a fine looking woman. They had spent one night too many with each other and had gotten closer to each other emotionally then they had hoped, Uther felt that he almost...loved this woman.
Soon after these nights, Emiline found herself to be pregnant. Uther claimed that she slept with many men and that the child could be anyones. But, Emiline disagreed. She had not slept with any other man for over three months and knew the child was his. Uther couldn't believe her, she was just a barmaid- he couldn't have a relationship with her, let alone a child. It would be a scandal. Emiline pleaded with Uther, but his mind was already made up.
Emiline went back to her life and so did Uther. Eventually, Emiline had the child in her home with help from Gaius. It was a baby girl who she decided to name Lilian. When Gaius asked who the proud father was, Emiline started to cry. "I musn't tell you Gaius! He'll have my head." She weeped. Emiline didn't have to say anything else, Gaius knew it was Uther.
After saying his goodbye's and congratulations to Emiline, Gaius made his way to the castle and knocked upon Uther's chamber door.
"Come in." Uther called. "Ah Gaius! How are you?"
"I'm good, my Lord." Gaius said in reply.
"What brings you to my chambers at this time of night, Is there an emergency." Uther asked cautiously.
"I believe a child of yours has just been born. Or at least, I assume she is you child. Emiline has not been with any other man since I caught her with you." Gaius said as he raised an eyebrow.
Uther seemed to be in thought."...Emiline..." He whispered to himself.
"You know just as well as I do, that child is yours. Uther, why do you not do the noble thing..." Gaius sighed as he took a seat.
"A King and a barmaid. I cannot bear how the kingdom would take such news." Uther exclaimed as he raised his voice.
"My Lord, This is not the reason I came to you. Not to rifle up old feelings. But to ask for your help."
"My help, With what?" Questioned Uther angrily.
"Emiline does not have long to live, I'm afraid. I fear the same fate for her as with your wife... The child must be found a new home, such as here in the castle-"
"The child musn't know."
"But Sire-"
"No, Gaius. Find her a new home in the lower town. She has no place here."
"But Sire, She's your daughter."
"I have made my decision. Now go!"
When Gaius returned to Emiline, she was hugging her baby softly in the corner. The baby was asleep in her arms. Emiline turned to Gaius. "Please take care of her Gaius. Find her a good home to live in. With people who will love her." Gaius knelt down next to Emiline, She held her newborn out to the elderly man who took her carefully into his arms. Gaius looked down at the infant and smiled with tears in his eyes, as he looked back up to Emiline he could see that she had already gone.
