He watched her as she saw their second born for the first time. Her big brown eyes he loved so much were flooded with emotion, something that rarely happens in Ginny's case. Harry had barely registered the healers subtly leaving the room to give the family a private moment. They had decided on the names long ago, Albus for a boy and Lily for a girl. As she looked into the bundle of blankets, the child's wails subsided. He barely registered Ginny's soft gasp but her next sentence jolted him back into reality.
"Oh Harry. He has your mother's eyes."
Exhaustion forgotten, Harry jumped to Ginny's bedside to make sure he did not dream those words. As his son stared back at him with those startlingly green eyes, a poignant memory surfaced from the depths of his mind. The memory was so vivid and startling that he slowly whispered "Severus."
For the first time in a decade, Harry was reminded of the man who gave his everything to ensure that those green eyes were always filled with happiness. The man whom he hated with a burning passion in all his time at Hogwarts, the man whom he wished death upon every time they clashed, the man whom he grew to respect and even admire (grudgingly) after knowing the full extent of his sacrifice, came into his forethought as he watched his son hold onto him and gurgle with laughter. He had all but forgotten about him after clearing the name in the post-war trials of death eaters.
The myriad of emotions cleared for a single moment. In that crystalline moment of clarity, he turned to his wife and said "Albus Severus Potter".
Till date, Harry Potter cannot come up with a decent answer every time Ron Weasley asks him what was he thinking when he picked the name of his second son.
