And now, The Story:

Jesse's POV:

"Bye Mom, Bye Andy! I'll be home by curfew!" I heard Susannah yell, followed by a male voice I almost didn't recognize. "Bye Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman. Don't worry, Suze'll be fine."

"Oh, we know Paul. We trust you." I heard Mr. Ackerman say. I sighed as I saw Slater help Susannah into his automobile, his eyes distracted by the short length of her skirt.

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
'Cause if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here

It hasn't been less than two years since Susannah and Slater began dating, and I still cannot begin to understand. Susannah claims to love him, and I know this is true, I just wish it wasn't. I wish more than anything that it was me Susannah was courting for so long. Or anyone at all but Slater. Anyone!

I faded out, not wishing to stay in Susannah's room any longer. Too much about my beautiful querida had changed with the arrival of Slater. I could barely remember her the way she was.

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
'Cause if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here

I waited until the early morning hours to reappear. I had to see my querida before moving on...Permanately.

I saw Susannah curled up in her bed, a tiny fist stuck out of the sheets and wrapped around something else. From the third finger of this hand gleamed an emerald brighter than my querida's eyes, surrounded by diamonds clear as day. My heart lurched, I doubled over as if sick, though spirits do not get ill.

Susannah stirred quietly, her free hand tightening around Slater's arm.

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh-Ah
Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line of the edge
And where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's fucked up and everythings all right
Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive
And I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ah-Ah Ahhh-Ah
Ah-Ah Ah-Ah I walk alone, I walk a...

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a..

My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
