Point of View: Simon

They're going to kill themselves. They're going to kill themselves. Ralph is a good leader but he's not the best. I hate how they be treating Piggy and the littluns. They ways the older boys talk to each other; you could just see the monster's in them about to pounce, metaphorically speaking, of course. I know the monster they speak of.
"Simon, we're hungry." Sam said. Eric pulled at my shirt and pointed to the forest. Roger said, "Can you go in Simon? The monster is in the forest. It's scary. Please?" I shrugged. I guess I could. I walked into the forest, not knowing what could happen. All of a sudden the littluns ran towards me and held onto me tightly. I started questioning the beastie. What is this beastie they are so afraid of? Should I be afraid too?
As we walked deeper into the forest, the sun set nicely and the light reflected off the water droplets on the leaves. There was just enough sunlight that made this island seem comfortable but not scary. We walked into the jungle glade. It was absolutely beautiful and innocent. I've never seen any butterflies on this island, but I saw a couple in the deep forest; they were different than regular butterflies. The way they drifted and swayed in the air was absolutely something you couldn't forget. There were many different flowers and plants; columbine, lilies, sunflowers, Venus fly traps, hydrangeas, and more. The finches dug their beaks into the tree holes to eat the seeds. Woodpeckers pecked the tree a million times, I couldn't stop watching. We picked some berries and leaves to eat; the berries were sweet and juicy. We could have stayed there all day but we couldn't. Ralph and the other boys would have gotten "worried". This was our secret hideout.
We haven't been back at the forest in days. Jack made us go hunting. Then we had to find a new place to settle because we needed new resources. It's been a couple of crazy days. Everyone's all wild and crazy, like wild chimpanzees. A few days later, the littluns asked if we could go back into the forest. After all that hard work, I decided to bring them back, this time they ran into the deep forest themselves. All of a sudden, I heard yelling and screaming, I started running as fast as I could. I tripped over a rock and fell. I was dizzy, I felt the floor and I felt gooey slimy materials. I blinked a few; butterflies, other bugs, and creatures, dead and mashed into pieces. Oh god. Oh god. I looked up. The once glazed jungle that was alive and innocent. Dead. Lifeless. I was right. They're going to kill each other.
