"Run, Astrid, go, go, I can fight them off!"

"Ethan, no! I'm not going anywhere without you." Ethan is so protective of me, which I love but at times like this, when the people of Carlton are at their worst, well…let's just say that he can be dramatic.

"Astrid, go! If anyone is going to die from us, it's me. I love you, Astrid."

"I'm not going to die. Now stay focused!" He sighs and turns back to the angry man. He closes his eyes, turns away, and shoots the man in the head. I watch his hazel eyes pop back open, sizing up his competition, when a woman jumps on me like a ravage animal. I grunt, kicking her off and stabbing her in the heart. Her bloodcurdling screams echo in my body when I see who it is. It was my neighbor, Mrs. Henderson. I sit down beside, my eyes heating up at the sight of her.

"I'm so sorry." I whisper.

"Honey, don't worry. I knew it was a risk." She replies in her usual kind way, except raspier. "Be safe, Astrid." Her eyes roll back in her head and I lay my forehead on her bloody chest, sobbing. I feel a warm hand on the small of my back. "Astrid. Come on. We can bury her and the others later". I nod, stand up, and wipe my tears on the sleeve of my shirt. He gives me a reassuring smile, and I turn away, switching my attention to the mob in front of us. We have to get to the other side. To the safe side. Ethan's hazel eyes meet my green eyes and we nod. Then we run into the mob, gripping each other's hands.
