The scientist

Chapter one

1974 November I was 8 months into my pregnancy. My husband Charles had been working on getting all the stuff for the baby ready. A crib, toys, potty, dippers, clothing and so on. We were expecting a girl the doctors had said or what they thought. My brother and his sectary had been over for coffee and dropped of a big box.

"my latest production!" he laughed proud. My brother, Cave, had his own laboratory. I don't know exactly what is was, he just told us that he worked with future science, witch creeped my a bit out.

"It's a turret! It's designed to keep the important things safe!" He was always proud of his work. Even the his worst and failed project. When they failed he just kept on working and developing. One time he showed us a… gun. Proud he told us that is gun was not just a gun. It was future! Handheld portal device he called it. Well then the future doesn't looks so exciting I complained after he fired it at our wall that ended up exploding.

"if this thing explode our walls, then I don't want to keep it. I want to protect my baby you know!" I was always the one that complained about his work. My husband never knew what to say and Cave's secretary Caroline only talked when Cave asked her questions. Poor woman.

"That's why I designed it! it's going to protect your baby and keep it safe!" He sounded very convinced. More than ever. But thinking back at what his other projects looked at I wasn't going to keep this thing near my baby.

"I don't think I can trust you anymore, your know. We gave you so many changes and every time it ended up breaking something" I sighed

"come on sis! Give me just one more change! I'm sure this robot is gonna be so helpful for you! Think about it. you to take a night out while the baby sleeps safe in his little crib with his turret by his side!" he grabbed my shoulder and looked at me with big eyes.

"First of all. Our baby is not going to be a he. Second of all. No!" I never shouted. I was always trying to be polite and friendly, but this time I just gave up and let the anger get out. "I gave you so many chances and I regret every single one! No more chances, Cave!" I pushed his hand away. My husband replaced my brothers hand with his as he walked towards me. Cave looked shocked.

"are you.." "leave!" I interrupted him. I was suddenly overwhelmed with anger and sadness. I didn't like shouting. It made me feel evil. I buried my head in my husbands chest.

"well then. We better get going, right Caroline?" he looked at the small woman "yes Mr. Johnson" she nodded. With no more words or sorry he left the kitchen, and slammed the door after him. Caroline nodded short and followed after him. There where silence in the kitchen. It was only my husband, me and the turret.

"I'm sorry" I sobbed. "don't be sorry you did the right thing. We don't need all his future stuff, we can protect our baby by us self." He was the only one that could cheer me up in these situations.

"I promise that our baby is gonna be safe" he laid his hand on my chin, and swiped my tears away.

it's going to be fine I thought I hope so
