This is for the USS Caryl prompt challenge. I chose option 6- close call/near death.
This one is dedicated to FairiesMasquerade. She is an amazing writer and a wonderful person. If you get a chance check out her story Three Little Birds. It's a great read
Running
Screams echo in the night
Bullets fly ever closer
Enemy has found
Those that are most loved
Battles haze
Blinds vision
Teeth gnashing, flesh tearing
Fire rages through what was home
Boots pounding on metal grates
Each calls the others name
Death stalks
Reasons for living
Thriving, surviving
Friends lost
Retreat called
Running, running
Need to escape
Find the other half of their soul
Bullets crease flesh
Writhing in pain
Warm blood drips, leaves a trail
Running still
Twisting, turning, dodging
Their sanctuary is gone
Need to escape
Regroup, recover
Through sun dappled trees
They run
Similar goal, far apart
Hearts rapid beating
In sync with the other
Searching, running
Calling with tear chocked voices
Safety reached
Too many missing
Will not believe
The other is lost
Corners turned
Physical, mental, emotional
Eyes spotted in the distance
Voices raised
Names burst through lips
Bodies collide
Arms clench
each to the other
Mouths whisper
Against beautiful skin
Gentle caresses
Searches for injury
Confirm each is real
Hands clasped
Safety found
Love returned
Reapers joy denied
Running again
Together
