Rare Occurrence

Hermione was worried. Christina was crying. Severus was furious.

Hermione tried to soothe Christina while whispering to her husband. "There has to be some mistake, hasn't there? She is magical." Hermione wasn't convinced.

Severus threw on his cloak. "I'll sort this out." Without another word, he Apparated to Hogwarts.

Minerva jumped when her office door burst open.

"What is this tripe!? Did the owl get lost?" Severus barked.

"Severus?"

"Christina didn't receive her Hogwarts letter," he explained through gritted teeth.

Minerva quickly checked the book. "You're right."

"Of course I'm bloody right. What are you going to do about it?"

Severus Disapparated home with a grin on his face for Christina's benefit. "All sorted. The owl will be here shortly."

Hermione smiled as Christina hugged her father. "What happened?"

"The quill had some sort of magical breakdown. It hasn't happened since 1703. For some reason, it couldn't handle accepting her as eleven years old. The confusion made it go haywire."

Hermione shook her head. "If we went by leap year birthdays, Christina would be the oldest First Year ever!"

Christina laughed and then squealed when an owl flew into the room.
