Disclaimer: This I don't own, so now I'm forlorn. Ehk, that's bad.
What Am I?
--
I look in the mirror
And wonder who's there.
Is this what others see?
--
Am I a monster
Or just a man?
Does it really matter?
--
I've seen heaven
And I've been through Hell.
They're just alike to me.
--
The lies I've told.
The secrets I keep.
The truth is always worse.
--
I am what I am,
Whatever that is.
What more could people ask?
--
I fear the future
More than the past.
The rising sun's my downfall.
A/N: The problem with writing interpretive characterization poetry is that it can often apply to multiple characters, especially with modern stereotypes. I had originally published this in my "Foe Glass" collection, but I decided it really was a better reflection of Sam than any of the other characters I could put it with. I'm thinking this is circa season 2, probably around the episode "All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1".
