Tony stark had no idea what had compelled him to do this, but he knew for certain as he slouched back in his leather couch and watched the opening credits to The Avengers movie that this was a terrible idea.
With all the technology available and in use by S.H.I.E.L.D. at the time of the Chetauri invasion and the lead up to it, enough video footage had been captured to be able to put together a documentary of their battle like no other documentary before it. Usually the billionaire did his best to avoid the particularly painful memories, and he still regularly woke in a cold sweat after a horrifying nightmare of being torn apart by a jet engine, or left behind on the other side of a dimensional rift.
No, he wasn't going to think of that… He shook his head to clear it and breathed in slowly. He really shouldn't be doing this… he wasn't ready, but… all the other's had seen it and kept asking him when he was going to see how awesome they all looked. It seemed to him that most of the other Avengers looked back on that time as quality bonding over getting to destroy a crap tonne of aliens (as well as a decent portion of the city) and then be recognised as superheroes, full of glory, blah, blah, blah. Okay, yeah that was really just Steve. And maybe Thor, a bit. But mostly Steve. And god, was he annoying about it. Because why in God's name would Tony not be proud of all the amazing, wonderful, brilliant things he did, and all the beautiful, talented people he saved? Ugh that had better not be the reason he was watching this stupid thing…
But he knew that wasn't the reason. It was the look on the other's face when they learned that he hadn't yet had the guts to watch the thing. The pity. The awkward silence that had hung in the air as their minds had perceived just a fraction of how broken this whole thing had made him. The Tony Stark. Nothing more than a child afraid of being left alone in the dark under his charm and arrogance.
He sighed. This was a stupid reason. Why did he have to prove himself to them? They weren't the ones who almost went to meet a God of an entirely different universe… Ugh stop thinking and watch the damn film!
