The man observed his surroundings carefully. The rain had become a torrential downpour, the cool liquid washing away all obvious and not so obvious sins in the night.
Not only did it wash away sin, but served as a dark omen; ominous foreboding snaking its way through his veins. He sighed; he knew his time was soon at an end. His thoughts flashed back to before he'd made up his mind, back to her. Why had he left, again? He couldn't remember. It had been too long since then.

"Naminé...," he whispered aloud without thinking, lost in the wide expanse of memory that was the past.
He remembered her smile, her laugh, everything about her held meaning for him, wether it be important or not. He didn't care which.
Why hadn't he listened when she begged him not to go? Because he felt his ending calling out to him? Who knew? He couldn't remember that either. It was misty now, not the crystal-clear picture he had forgotten.

A sharp noise dragged him out of his thoughts, his memories. The clouds in the sky were growing darker, more threatening. He couldn't fail. Who would take care of her, protect her, love her, after he was gone? No one, he knew. If he died, so did she. They were connected.

All the two Nobodies had were each other. That was it. And if one of them fell, then, well... So did the other.
He would fail. He knew he would, he could feel it. They were both already dead.

When would the final bolt of lightening strike...?
X-x-x-x-x-x-X
'Soon,' he thought with a bitter smirk, 'Soon.'
He was only waiting now. Awaiting the inevitable. There was no where to run now, no place to hide.

And there they were. He could smell them, hear them, feel them ripping into his body with a fury. It hurt, even though he couldn't really feel it.
His memory cleared. He could see her now. Maybe he could see her again when this was all over. Just one more time.
But the picture changed. The final bolt of lightening struck.
She was dying.
So was he.
And now at last he knew.
Axel was never going home again.
