Invasion
Another blue bolt of plasma tore through the sky, impacting with a tall glass skyscraper. It collapsed and fell into the wreckage of a once great city. The air was filled with static, and Danny felt it. It was one week since the Covenant had attacked. Everyone in Britain had heard about the victory, of brave marines fighting the Covenant back. But the joy of what was thought to be the real invasion was now gone.
Every male over 16 had been conscripted into the British army, the military and government knew it might not be enough, but they didn't want to go down without a fight. Suddenly the troop carrier hit a bump and flew into the air, the silence was broken as the lieutenant shouted, "Marines at the ready, London has turned into a war zone, I know you think there's nothing here to fight for, but we're going in."
In a disorderly fashion the soldiers disembarked, everything was black except for the fires that shone all over the city, and sparks of plasma flitted through the air. Private Danny Grey of the 11th patrol loaded his battle rifle and looked up in awe as a damaged human cruiser, the UNSC Titan, was struck by wave after wave of red explosions. The troops were already demoralized, but the site of yet another ship being torn apart made them scared.
Two million British troops were entering London. At 1200 hours they were to retake the city, to push back the covenant, and to make them regret landing here. One week ago hundreds of purple and silver ships appeared high up in the skies. The SuperMAC cannons and the UNSC fleet were ready, but the Covenant had brought everything they had. They were split into battle groups of 15 capital ships which were then each assigned to a sector of Earth.
The Capital ships released waves of boarding crafts, each full to the brim with Brutes. The MAC platforms were systematically taken over, and used against the human forces. Admiral Hood had continued issuing orders to the navy and to any remaining forces, but the Cairo was attacked by a Covenant sniper ship. It quickly and efficiently tore through the station, and the superheated plasma melted the armour plating of the platform, before an anti-matter bomb destroyed it from within.
The human forces around the world were already on high alert after the attack on New Mombassa, and hopes were high, but the Covenant were too strong. ONI had been sent a message from the Covenant Separatists, the Elites promised to help, but even as the Loyalists began their unstoppable invasion, no aid came. Each major city on Earth was slowly glassed. The Covenant ships weren't troubled by UNSC fleet, which was hunted down, each ship was trapped, and disintegrated by blue plasma.
On the first day of the invasion alone, 1.3 billion humans had died, the cities of Earth were shattered, and their populations massacred. After three days the UNSC forces had begun to deploy. Each government tried to save their countries, ignoring HIGHCOM's orders, and instead of the Humans fighting as a seamless force, they were divided, and the aliens jumped at this weakness. The larger countries managed to fight back with varying success, but every advance made by humans on the ground was countered by another tactical plasma strike. Now it was Britain's turn to fight, and as Private Danny realised what he was in for, the nearly troop carrier was engulfed in a blue flame, and was flung towards his patrol. The night was young, but he had already had to dodge a twisted block of metal, and he could here the growls of a Brute pack, and they wanted blood.
