He knew everyone's secrets, prized possessions, and even the skeletons that were kept hidden inside a puny closet. It was either a gift or a curse, they said.
Only one opinion mattered, though.
For a well-known wag, every night he cried for both reasons. He cried for obtaining a rare gift that caused him his peace. He cried for reaping a curse never to gain his silence ever again.
To everyone's eyes, he was the carefree jester, the clown who always smiled, the fool with no reason and the one treated as a joke.
She knew his secrets. Every time he joked around, she would always stop for a bit to observe. His feeble attempt to make everyone smile would always be a wonder for her. She noted the smile daubed on his face.
It was neither fake nor true.
When everything got serious, he would annoy her constantly, and she would chase him around to get back. She would then forget what he was. She would soon forget the faint sadness she saw in his eyes.
Knowing it all was painful. He knew a faux treatment, and he knew those who would not give a damn about anything, even him. It was dreadful to know that pretension existed.
He would glance around, and thoughts would come. He would want to tell he was mocked, she was blamed, he was cursed, she was taunted, and they were lonely.
He would look around again. His gaze would soon be centered on the simplest notion he heard. She thought he was a jerk.
He would regard the glare she sent his way, and all the other thoughts would soon vanish.
A grin would be painted on his face.
She would scoff at every cheesy grin he would flash at her. Her frown would deepen when he would start his way towards her.
She would know every little thing his mind would be working on; maybe a jeer or sometimes, anything to tease her. She would always get her revenge.
It would be a surprise when he would suddenly grab her hand and bring her to the place that would make her smile.
He would tease her. The only thing that he knew that would wipe away the sadness he saw in her eyes. His friend rejected her. It's fine, he knew he would always be there for her.
He would do everything to annoy her and get her mind off of the bastard as she called it.
Because he knew he would soon get his silence.
As they both would rest on the rooftop he would have pestered her on, they would talk about anything. A large part would be full of jesting, though.
And she wouldn't be able to help the laugh that was to come.
The laugh would finally bring his silence.
Because Sumire was undoubtedly, his peace, Koko would still be able to smile.
I encourage readers to read fictions who have other pairings rather than NAMI. There are vast out there that are treasures. Don't be left behind.
For you, Sakura Keiko.
