I would take a bullet for you
I would gladly die for you
If it means you living that bit longer
After all...
...I choose you...

Gaara could not believe what had just happened. At this very moment he could still feel frozen from the terrible incident that had just occurred.
He and Lee were just merely walking the streets of Suna, enjoying the casual conversation between them. Ever since Lee had arrived to the red head's village for a vacation, they had spent every moment they could together. They had eaten together, they had sparred together and they had just... been together.
Yet in this case, their 'togetherness' had almost caused Lee his life.
Gaara could hear the part of his mind blame himself for letting down his guard for an instant. If only he had been more aware then maybe... Lee would not have been harmed by the assassin sent to kill Gaara.
Apparently there were still people who wanted him dead in his own village. Gaara growled in frustration as he watched his precious person resting in the hospital bed.
"...why?" the question came out as a murmur at first. But as those pale hand gripped the white bed sheets, his voice became louder.
"Why!?"
'Why was I distracted? Why did Lee get hurt?... why did he have to step in front of me?'
Suddenly a memory came to mind, reminding Gaara of his uncle...
'Yashamaru...'
He remembered how his uncle stood in front of Gaara to protect a boy in his village, preventing the child from harm.
Dark eyelids squeezed tight as if to push away the memory in his mind as well as the tear threatening to leak out. He refused to cry over this, even though seeing the Konoha ninja in this state nearly broke his heart all over again.
"Gaara?"
Eyes snapped open to stare into the half-opened dark eyes, the words falling out of Gaara's mouth before he could even stop them from being spoken.
"Why?... why would you risk your life?"
"Because..." a bandaged hand shakely made it's way up to cup Gaara's face, to which the pale hand gently covered Lee's.
"...You're my important person?"
A frown appeared on the red head's face, but his position staying the same.
"But what if you died? ...then who would I have left?"
Lee sensed the sad tone in Gaara's voice and gave out a kind apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry... next time I'll do better to make sure the both of us are protected."
"There won't be a next time."
To the ebony haired boy's surprise, Gaara leaned in and captured his lips. The kiss was soft, sensual and dominating. Lee was sad for it to end so soon when Gaara pulled away, but he then noticed the change of expression on the young Kazekage's face. His eyes and slight smile were both full of confidence and determination, which had made Lee's heart skip a beat.
"But... if anything like that does happen again, I will be the one to protect you."
And with those final words, Gaara dived in for another kiss.
