Jack strolled into Carter's office and noted, not for the first time, it resembled a junkyard more than anything. He stopped near her seat, looking around for a moment. "Well, I'm off, for real this time."
"Have a good time, sir," she replied, looking up.
"I will. The invitation still stands. Sure you don't want come along?" he asked, taking an affectedly casual stance.
Carter frowned. She'd already refused and changed her mind a few times.
Sensing her hesitation, Jack cracked a smile. "Didn't I order you to get a life?"
Carter smiled. "Yes, sir." Making up her mind, she set down her instruments and turned off her desk light. "Request permission to go fishing, sir," she said, standing at attention, making a playful salute.
"Granted," Jack said with a genuine smile, free of mischief.
Sam threw one final glance around her office, making sure she hadn't forgotten anything or left something switched on. The pair stepped into the elevator and Jack punched the button that would take them topside. "Maybe, while we're there, I'll take you on that date I owe you," Jack said.
Sam smiled shyly in return.
A/N: Follows Nemesis/Small Victories. I did steal the "Didn't I order you to get a life" line from another episode; I thought it fit well here.
