Goodbye my Brother…

I was standing on Eckhart's rocket. We had just defeated her; this 'war' was over.

"So what now?" asked Mustang.

Al knew something was wrong. I couldn't look at him or the general, so I just started at the ground. I clapped my hands and touched part of the rocket. I separated part of it, now Al and the general were drifting away.

"Brother? Brother what are you doing?!"

Al asked that, but I'm pretty sure he knew what I was doing, he just didn't want to believe it. He tried to come towards me, but Mustang held him back.

"That should be enough alchemic material to get yourselves down"

There wasn't much emotion in my voice, but there was sorrow in my heart and the smile on my face was fake.

"What about you?" asked Mustang.

Al was trembling, and it looked like he was holding back tears as well.

"And what about you? Where will you go?" asked Mustang.

"I'm gonna take what's left of these soldiers back to their world"

"WHY YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO WITH THEM!"

Al sounded desperate to try and make me stay. It hurt me to go, but inside I knew what I had to do.

"I have to break the gate on their side, and I need you to stay here Al and destroy it on this side too so the portal can never be opened again"

I turned away, I couldn't bear to face him.

"What about Winry?! Don't you know she misses you too?!"

God Winry…I loved her, I always did, but I never told her, and now I would never see her again. I turned to face Al and lifted my right arm.

"Tell her thanks, she always made the best"

Then I turned away and didn't look back.

"WAIT! BROTHER NO! I JUST GOT YOU BACK, YOU CAN'T GO AGAIN!"

But I ignored him and walked back into the ship. As I started up the ship to go back I couldn't stop the tears any more. Part of me told me to forget about this whole matter and stay in Amestris, but I knew what I had to do.

"Al…Winry…I'm sorry…"

Before this I couldn't remember the last time I cried, but then I remembered that it was when Al had sacrificed himself to bring my soul back from the gate.

"Alphonse…"

Some older brother I am, abandoning him like this the only thing going through my head as I got through the gate in one piece, but I barely noticed.

As the rocket landed back where it originally took off, I realized there was no turning back now, and I would never see anyone from my world ever again.
