Washed Away In A Fairytale

She looked around at the luxury tent, feeling nothing but sick at what would be happening here in the next few hours.

She didn't want to be here.

She snorted to herself. As the bride, she didn't suppose that anybody would be happy if she didn't remain. After all, it was her wedding.

As though summoned by her thoughts, her husband to be appeared in front of her, peering at her with concern evident in his eyes.

"Rabastan, what are you doing here? You know we're not supposed to see each other before the ceremony."

He shrugged. "I don't pay much attention to the rules, Andy, you know that."

She smirked. She did indeed know that. Growing up, he'd gotten her in so much trouble.

"You don't want to do this, do you?" he asked after a moment.

She sighed. "Rab."

"I'm a little bit jealous that you love him as much as you do, you know. To be contemplating becoming an outcast for him."

There was a bit of a sneer in his tone, but she didn't take it personally. She knew she was hurting him by not wanting to marry him.

They'd been best friends for years, and she did love him. She just… loved someone else more, and different.

He stepped forward. "Think of what we could do together, Andy," he implored. "You don't need to do this."

She choked on a sob, gripping his hand. "I don't want to marry for duty, Rab. I want… I want the fairytale."

He nodded, resigned. He'd already known when he came into the tent that they wouldn't be getting married.

Unlike Andromeda, his feelings had changed as they'd grown, and he was very much in love with the woman in front of him. He couldn't deny that he wanted to rip Ted Tonk's head from his body, for daring to make Andromeda fall in love with him.

"So go," he told her after a moment. "Go and be with him."

"But…"

"I want you to be happy," he murmured, pulling her into his chest. He let the smell of her hair soothe him for a moment. "I want you to be loved and I want you to be happy, and if he can give you that… who am I to stand in your way."

"I'll be disowned," she whispered.

"Is your fairytale worth it?"

Rabastan stood at the back of the registration office wearing an invisibility cloak he'd nicked from one of the other Death Eaters.

Andromeda looked beautiful as she said her vows, tears glistening in her eyes. She wore a simple dress, nothing like the extravagant robes that had been specially made for her for their wedding.

A wave of jealousy filled him up as he watched Ted Tonks slip a ring onto her finger, and his own fingers twitched for his wand.

Of course he didn't do anything, he could never hurt her that way.

He loved her. Even if she couldn't return that love.

He stayed hidden until they'd left the registration office, and followed at distance, watching as Ted opened the door of a muggle car for her. She struggled with the strap that wrapped around people in cars, and Rabastan heard Ted laugh and say, "I'll do it for you."

If for nothing else, Rabastan hated Ted for that, because Andromeda allowed him to do it without an ounce of fight.

That wasn't the woman Rabastan loved. She was gone, washed away in a fairytale.
