Lost in Manhattan (Skittery one-shot)
I don't own Newsies in any way.
"Mama! Papa!" a little girl called. The girl looked around, but it was too dark. She began running down streets and alleyways looking for her parents. She ran into a boy with a cigar.
"Whatcha doin' liddle one?" Racetrack asked the girl.
She looked at him and she started wailing and crying.
"Awwww…crap", Racetrack said.
Skittery ran up to the young girl. He picked her up and rubbed her back.
She soon got quiet.
"Ise tink she's asleep", Skittery said. He walked to the lodging house and set her on a bed next to Tumbler's. "What shall Ise call youse?" Skittery asked, "Ise call youse Siren".
Siren woke up early the next morning. "Mama! Papa!" the girl shrieked. She began to cry again.
Skittery got out of bed and comforted the young girl.
"Papa", she said quietly.
"Youse hungry?" Skittery asked Siren. She sniffled and nodded.
He woke Tumbler up and told him to get ready.
The three of them set off to Tibby's for breakfast.
"Heya Skitts. Ise see youse kept 'er. Whatcha callin' 'er? Wailah?" Racetrack asked.
Siren's face turned red with rage and she stomped on Race's foot.
Racetrack yelped in pain.
Siren just smirked and went to sit down with Skittery and Tumbler.
"Demone bambino male (evil demon child)", Race cursed.
Skittery ordered pancakes for the kids and coffee for himself. Skittery could leave the newsies and be happy at this point.
"Skitts!" Jack called.
Skittery jumped and Siren giggled. Skittery smiled at her and said, "C'mon guys. Time ta sell some papes".
Tumbler rejoiced and grabbed Siren's hand and pulled her out the door.
"So…Skittery…youse officially a dad!" Jack teased.
"It ain' funny Jack. Wese a family now. Siren, Tumbler, and I. Ise jist wish Ise had enough money ta git us off da streets", Skittery said.
Jack frowned. He never expected Skittery to dream about these things. "Youse will git dere Skitts. All of us dat have dreams are so close ta reachin' 'em. Some takes longah dan oddahs", Jack assured his friend.
Skittery laughed when he saw Tumbler, Siren, Snipeshooter, and Les in a heated game of marbles.
Jack put a hand on his friend's shoulder and said, "Good luck Skitts. Ise hope youse git dere someday. When youse git dere, be suoa ta contact me in Santa Fe".
"It may be a while Jackie Boi", Skittery said. Skittery left Jack to go and play with his new family.
Over the next few years, Skittery got enough money to buy an apartment, start his own shop, and even got married. He officially adopted Tumbler and Siren. He had achieved his dreams and now he could die a happy…
...he never did contact Jack though.
