Our First Mother's Day
Yes, I know, this is LATE, but, I've been distracted like a bitch lately and I'm in the mood to write, refer to the author's note of "Hush Hush", so I don't have to repeat myself. But, yeah, family, Persona 5, distractions galore, writing NOW!
It was quiet mid-morning on a Sunday and Toriel was sitting in her lounge chair in the peace and quiet of the vacant living room, absorbed in one of her old books.
"Mom?" she suddenly heard.
Looking up from her book, she saw Asriel standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"Yes, dear?" she responded.
"Are you busy right now?" her son asked innocently.
"Not really," the goat woman replied, "why?"
"Wait here." Asriel said.
He then ran back up the stairs, while his mother watched on curiously, though, it was only a moment later that he came back down the stairs, with Frisk following slowly behind him, carefully toting a well decorated box. Together, the children carried the box over to their mother.
"This is for you." Frisk said.
"This is why we were in our room until dinner yesterday." Asriel affirmed.
"Oh my," Toriel giggled, taking the box, "what is this for?"
"Last week, Frisk told me that humans celebrated a holiday called 'Mother's Day', which, obviously, is a day for celebrating mothers," Asriel explained, "so we decided that we should celebrate it as well, starting this year."
Frisk looked down tensely.
"I would've done this last year," he voiced awkwardly, "but, it wasn't that long after we got to the surface and...Asriel was still Flowey, I...just didn't think it would've been appropriate at the time. But, now that I truly feel that I have a real mother, I finally have a reason to celebrate it!"
Toriel looked down at her wrapped gift fondly.
"Ah ha ha, Mother's Day, huh?" she laughed serenely, "Humans have thought of everything haven't they?"
"Well, Father's Day is next month." Frisk offered.
"Speaking of Father," Asriel voiced, "Dad helped us put our gift together; open it up already."
Toriel carefully unwrapped and opened the box, which contained a purple, handmade clay pot, decorated with ribbon, sequins, buttons, and more, which contained beautiful flowers of assorted colors.
"Oh, look at that," the goat mother said placidly, holding up her gift to look it over closely, "the pot is adorable and the marigolds are lovely."
"Next year we'll each try to get you something ourselves," Frisk said, "ideally something we can actually purchase."
Toriel set her gift aside and outstretched her arms.
"Come here you two." she beckoned.
She pulled both of her children onto her lap.
"This is more than enough for me," Toriel voiced, "just having both of you here means more to me than any material gift."
"A sentiment I feel as well." they heard.
Toriel turned around to see Asgore standing in the entryway of the kitchen, his camcorder in hand, apparently having caught the entire scene on camera.
"The kids asked that we get this on camera." he affirmed.
The goat woman laughed in response, hugging her children close one again.
I know it's short, but, with a holiday as simple as Mother's Day, a story does not really need to be that long.
