Consequences of Dating Before 60

Based on Stargate: SG-1

Takes place after the series. Fits into the universe I established in the "Gramps and Grams" story, but stands alone.

Jack glanced at Hathor to see his ETA again. He didn't need her to tell him which way to go, he knew how to get to Cassie's from here. His ETA also hadn't changed since he left DC so he knew he as going to arrive in 16 minutes.

He smiled to himself. She didn't know he was coming. Elliot was deployed on the Carter Hall - Ha, Carter - and Cassie was pregnant. She wasn't very far along but she should be showing by now. He was excited to see her.

Deciding he had no further use for Hathor, he switched her off and put her into the console and smirked ZZ Top came onto the radio. He was already having fun.

He pulled into the driveway and got out of the car, grabbing his duffle bag and heading to the front door. He knocked.

He waited a few moments as Cassie came to the door. There as a squeal from inside, clearly Cassie saw it was him. She threw the door open and threw her arms around him. "Jack!" she squealed! "I didn't know you were coming to visit me!"

Jack couldn't help but smile. Only one woman in the world made him happier than Cassie did. "Surprise," he said.

She ushered him into her house. "I'm so excited to see you!" She paused on the way to the kitchen to squeeze the life out of him again. "Let me finish these dishes. What are you doing here?"

When they got to the kitchen, he sat down at the bar and she got him a beer before continuing to unload the dishwasher.

"I just came to visit you. You know, to see how thing are . . ."

Cassie turned away from the cupboard with a big smile, one she obviously learned from Carter. "I missed you, too."

Jack smirked and nodded. "Maybe just a little."

Cassie leaned over the bar and kissed his cheek before getting back to the dishes.

"Actually, Cass," he used his Dad voice. "I wanted to ask you something."

She turned around, sensing his tone, but also sensing there was some Jack O'Neill joking going on.

"Just - ah - what's going on in there?" he asked, gesturing to her abdomen.

A Carter Grin covered her face again. "Can you really tell?"

He held his poker face.

Cassie put both hands on her abdomen. "Can you? I look in the mirror a couple times a day." She looked so excited.

"You know, Cassie, this wasn't supposed to happen."

"What wasn't?"

"I warned you about dating before 60."

Cassie frowned. "I thought you warned me about dating before 60 because you didn't want me to date, period."

"Of course not," he said. "I just wanted to protect you from this." He gestured at her.

"From what?"

"Pregnant with your husband off on deployment. And married to" he faked a shudder, "a Marine."

Cassie laughed. "You set the bar high, Jack, and Elliot was as close as I could get."

"You know, if you waited till you were 60, we could've gotten married."

"Why wait until 60?"

"Because I'm 35 years older than you, but the age difference wouldn't really matter when you're 60 and I'm 95."

Cassie laughed again and sat down next to him at the bar. "Sure thing, Old Man. When I'm 60, I'll divorce Elliot and we can get married."

He smirked and took a sip of his beer. "As long as we've got a game plan."

That night they sat on Cassie's couch and watched some tv. Cassie was curled up to him with her head on his shoulder. She had been a cuddler as a little kid, too.

"You know you're pretty much like my dad, right?" she asked after they had been sitting together for at least an hour.

He smirked and kissed the top of her head. "Good, 'cause you're pretty much like my kid."
