Sakura and Sasuke stared at the pitiful little creature in Naruto's arms. Naruto squirmed uncomfortably in his seat, biting his lip nervously. The tiny thing he was holding mewled a couple of times.
Sakura sighed and Sasuke stood up.
"Okay, let's run through this one more time. Naruto, how did this happen?"
Naruto began the sorry tale.
-Cue flashback-
Naruto sat in his favourite seat in his favourite building in Konoha (better known as the comfiest seat in the ramen shop). Having finished his bowl, he waved to the serving girl for more, but she just smiled and shook her head.
He frowned and ran up to her.
"Is it closing time already?"
"Afraid so."
"'Kay. See yuh."
He looked out of the window and groaned. Raining again!
He ran down the street, dodging the larger puddles. However, he couldn't avoid them for too long, and eventually he stepped in a little puddle of water and fell straight into a big one.
"Gaah!!"
He hauled his butt out of the water faster than you could say 'ramen'. He hopped about for a bit, loudly screeching about his wetness. Eventually, he ran out of breath and sat there, attempting to catch his breath.
And that was when he heard it.
"Mmmraow?"
Immediately, his head jerked upwards. He looked around for the source of the noise, eventually spotting a small kitten cowering in an alleyway. It had to be said, it looked extremely pathetic. Pathetic enough to make any ninja with a heart want to take it home. And Naruto most definitely had a heart.
Naruto called to it.
"Here, kitty, kitty, kitty."
It hesitated for a moment, then it padded towards him.
"Meep?"
"It's okay, kitty. I'm not gonna hurt you."
Eventually, having managed to pick it up without having it scratch his face off, he walked all the way back to the house he and his team-mates were temporarily living in with the little kitten cuddling into his jacket.
-End flashback-
"…And that's why she's here."
There was a silence for a short while, until Naruto couldn't handle it anymore and burst out, "Can I keep her?!?"
Sasuke and Sakura shared a glance. After a moment's consideration, Sakura said, "Well, she is really cute. I guess we can."
Sasuke slumped. He did not want to be the one to explain this to Kakashi…
