Some thoughts of Shikamaru's father...
XD

Now, normally one would be proud of their son when they became Anbu. And not only Anbu, but Captain of the Anbu. They would be so filled with pride that they would threaten to explode. It was an honor after all, only second in shinobi rank to Hokage. However, for Nara Shikato, that wasn't the case. It was just plain irritating.

It was also embarrassing when your 16-year-old was issuing you orders. Being told what to do by someone 25 years your… was 'younger' the appropriate term here?... was just the most humiliating feeling Shikato had experienced. Degrading really, knowing that your son achieved a higher rank than you, faster than you could ever imagine to. It irked Shikato that his son was smarter than him by at least 100 IQ points as well. Being constantly corrected by your own son was infuriating, really.

It also just wouldn't do if you were getting chewed out by your son on how bad the mission went. Try picturing your kid yelling at you because of something you did incorrectly. Humiliating. Embarrassing. Annoying. Those are some words Shikato would use describe the unpleasant experience. It did nothing for Shikato's dignity either.

His pride was especially damaged when he tried to assert his authority on his own son, telling Shikamaru that he couldn't yell at his father like that, and Shikamaru responded with 'Maybe if you did something correct on a mission I wouldn't have to yell at you and embarrass you by correcting you, father.' He gave birth to that little snot, goddamnit!

Shikato's inner rant was interrupted by none other than his object of annoyance, who was telling him to get a move on if he ever wanted to start the mission sometime that day. The elder Nara sighed, following his own son's orders obediently.

Something just felt wrong about the current situation.
