The One That Got Away
Author's Note: This is my first DA fanfic. Tell me if you like it! I know it's short, it only took me one period to write it which is 40minutes at my school.
The fight with the Arishok was worse than they thought. They thought she'd win; he thought she'd win. The Arishok killed Hawke in single handed combat. She was strong, but not strong enough. The winner would get Isabella, that was the deal, and Hawke would gladly fight for her friend's life. It was his fault; at least that's what he told himself. If he didn't suggest a duel maybe she would still be alive, maybe he would still see her beautiful smile, and feel her warmth when they touched… maybe, just maybe.
Fenris ran up to Hawke and held her body in his arms; tears ran down his cheeks. Anders could not heal her, it was to late. It doesn't matter anyway, that damned abomination wasn't there, he didn't even come along with them. He moved her short ebony hair out of the way of her shut blood shot eyes. Hawke opened her eyes and looked at Fenris and smiled.
"Hey." She whispered.
"Hawke, I'm sorry. This is all my fault." He was not able to look her in the eye; those deep blue eyes.
"Don't say that. It was my choice."
"Please don't go. Please don't leave me alone." Fenris cried while holding her tightly in his arms, refusing to let go. The warmth from her body was gone and replaced with Death's cold touch.
"Tell me a story; one about a princess."
Fenris looked at her and smiled, "Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess-"
"How beautiful was she?" Hawke asked.
"No one in the kingdom could even compare to her beauty." He ran his fingers through her blood soaked hair, "There was a prince too. The prince loved the princess, but he made a mistake; a stupid mistake. He was to much of a coward to ask for the princess's forgiveness, even though he can't imagine living without her."
"Does the princess love him?" Hawked asked.
"I don't know."
"I think she does." Hawke replied with a calming smile.
"Yes, I think she does too." said smiling and looking deep inter her deep blue eyes.
Hawke put a bloody hand on Fenris's cheek and wiped away some of his tears, "Don't worry Fenris. The prince always gets the princess." Hawke's hand fell to her side and her eyes slowly shut forever.
"Hawke! HAWKE! WAKE UP! Marian!" He shouted, but no amount of shouting and pleading would ever bring her back. She was gone and Fenris was alone.
Analouge- Anders didn't blow up the chantry; he thought that Hawke would be disappointed in him if he did. Sebastian took back Stockhaven, and in the middle of the town he honored Hawke with a statue of her. The statue displayed how kind hearted and brave she was. Aveline married Dominic and they had a baby girl; they named her Hawke. Merrill turned into an abomination and was killed by the Templars; Poor Daisy. Isabella refused the Qun and was forced to become a slave to them instead. The Qun don't waste anyone. Varric still tells stories of the great hero Hawke who killed a High Dragon with just a single glare. Danarius came back for Fenris and Fenris went back to his former master without a single argument. He hoped that Danraius would erase his memories once again, but Danarius saw it a better punishment to let Fenris keep his memories of the love of his life and how she died right in his arms. Fenris still dreams about Hawke every night in the fade. He never got to told her that he loves her.
The End
"You never finished the story." Hawke said. Fenris was dreaming about her again, "So does the prince get the princess."
Fenris took Hawke's hands in his, "The prince always gets the princess."
