Luna sat alone in the Ravenclaw common room. She stared out the window and sighed.
"What's up with you?" she turned her head to see her friend, Padma, with a bowl of her favorite pudding.
"Oh, nothing. Just thinking." she took the pudding from her friend and smiled.
"About what?" her friend sat down next to her. Luna once again looked out at the stormy night and sighed.
"Just classes. I'm going to take a walk." she got up and grabbed her coat, heading for the grounds. Yes it was storming, but Luna found it calming. So she walked. And she walked to the Black Lake, and sat down. She brought her legs up and rested her head on her knees. He's off limits… she thought miserably. She started to cry… she really didn't know why he was affecting her so. But he was. She heard footsteps and quickly climbed the nearest tree.
"That's final!" there were two people, obviously professor Snape, and someone else.
"But I just need more time!" Luna's heart stopped in her chest. She knew who it was the moment he spoke. The reason she was out here in the first place. The one person that she could never get out of her mind. The one that makes her heart beat unnaturally fast and loud. It was Draco Malfoy.
"I gave you more time! If you don't do it, then you will die! That's final! And I'm sick of covering for you!" Snape turned so that his back was to Luna and so she could see Draco's anguished face.
"Please! All I ask is for your help! Please! Even my mother doesn't want me to do this!" Draco pleaded.
"of course your mother doesn't want you to do it! She's worried sick and that's the only reason why I agreed to help in the first place! But if you're not even going to try, then you are on your own!" Snape walked away, and Draco collapsed to his knees. Luna started to climb down the tree, and the second that her feet hit the sopping grass, Draco looked up.
"What do you want Lovegood?" he spat, attempting to hide his tear-stained face.
"I was just wondering if you were Ok." she took a step towards him, and he didn't notice.
"I'm just fine." He turned his face away from her and she could hear him sob.
"Please, if you let me help you…" Luna reached for him and he flinched back.
"No one can help me! I have to do it alone!" he shouted. He got up and faced Luna with clenched fists.
"Maybe if you just talk to me…" Luna reached for him again, and he looked at her with a rage that would put the deepest pits of hell to shame.
"I said I have to do it alone!" he yelled. He turned his back, but Luna put her hand on his shoulder and pulled him back to facing her.
"All I did was try and help… maybe instead of being a complete git you can take help, then maybe not everyone will hate you!" Luna turned away and walked back to the castle.
Draco stood there, confused and angry. Did you just let a girl tell you what to do? And Loony Lovegood at that! Come on, you're a Malfoy! But why couldn't I yell at her? Ugh! It's the stupid stress. That's all. But then again… Draco's jumbled thoughts raced inside of his mind as he walked back to the Slytherin common room.
In the Ravenclaw dormitory, Luna lies in her bed, her thoughts as mixed and as crazy as they were the first time she realized she liked Draco. She sighed and closed her eyes, falling into a dreamless dark slumber.
