A/N: I do not own Harry Potter.

This is my fifth entry for The Ultimate Pairing Drabble Competition. My prompt was "reunion", and I chose the pairing Tom Riddle/Minerva McGonagall because it was interesting.

Words: 254

Minerva McGonagall had not always been Hogwarts' strict Transfigurations Professor. As hard as it may be for some of her students to fathom, she had once been a student herself. She had been a Gryffindor, of course. She had also been living evidence that there was no such thing as an innocent Gryffindor.

He had been a Slytherin. He had been evidence that no one is as perfect as they seem to be. He had tricked everyone. He had wormed his way into all of the teachers' good books with his genius and his smile and his polite words. He had stolen her heart, had twisted her thoughts, and had played with her emotions. She had let him do it. What a fool she had been.

She hadn't seen him after Hogwarts, but she knew what he had become. Perhaps that was who he had always been. She feared him, now, but there was a part of her, deep down inside, that still held on tight to her memories of the young man she had known so many years ago. She had never forgotten him.

Minerva shook the thoughts away. She was not a schoolgirl any longer, but a professor. She had a responsibility to the children under her care. She may very well see him again today, but this was not to be a happy reunion. It would not be happy, by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe, just maybe, this battle would finally free her from the memory of Tom Riddle.
