A/N: I was bored. This was born.

I don't own Girl Meets World.

When he was younger, he liked Riley. He really did. She was everything he was suppose to fall for: sweet, silly, loyal, honest, and all around good. She was safe.

And for a while, he liked that. He liked the way he could rely on her for nearly everything. He liked how easy she was to make happy. He liked how she made him feel.

But, time change and people change. As as he got older, Lucas realized that the relationship that he and Riley had was normal.

And normal got boring.

The Texan soon found his mind and eyes wandering to the brunette's best friend. She was also kind (in her own way), but was also: bold, daring, and different.

He didn't see the blond as someone who would give him a taste of something new, so he could just get tired of her and move on to someone else. No. He saw her as a girl who would continue to give him a taste of something new for his entire life.

Yes, she had her problems. Don't we all.

But, love… Love is being able to see past and accept those flaws. Love is when those flaws don't alter your feelings or view on the person.

And when they entered into their Junior year of high school, Lucas had fallen in love with every aspect of Maya Penelope Hart.

He had made an effort to grow close to her during Freshman year. It wasn't long after he and Riley decided that it was easier to be friends, did Riley start seeing Farkle in a whole new way.

They made a cute couple of goofballs.

With Riley and Farkle doing their own thing, Lucas and Maya were left in each other's company. So, they put aside some of the name calling and started to get to know one another.

The country boy found the city girl fascinating.

Soon, the duo became as close as any other pair in their little group. Lucas finally felt like he knew the blonde and could call her one of his best friends.

But, the more they talked and the more he discovered, the harder he fell.

The best things about their conversations was the depth that they would reach. They'd talk about the calling of her life, his soul.

She wanted to be an artist. To let people hear her voice through her images. He wanted to be a veterinarian. To save the lives of animals.

She wanted to paint pictures of his animals. He wanted to hang her pictures wherever he might work.

They discovered that they were both old souls and that they wanted to understand the world on a deeper level.

She founds out that he could play guitar like her. They would sometimes sing together.

Her imagination was one of the main things her loved about her. It may not be butterflies and rainbows like Riley, but it was there. It was big. And it was deep.

The blonde was broken. This he knew, and he began to try and hold her together. The surprising thing was, she let him. And when everything came crumbling down, he was her rock, while Riley was her comforter.

She also understood him in a way that Riley never did. He had family issues, so did she. When they talked about it, he didn't feel like he was alone with that anymore.

When they talked, she didn't feel alone in general anymore.

As he was falling in love her her, she was doing the same with him. Which is why, during May of their Junior year of high school, when he asked her out…

She kissed him.
