Sorry it's so short. This was a spur-of-the-moment kind of idea, and I wanted to grab it before it got away. Unfortunatly, some of it did get away.

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.

I stare coolly down into the pit where a disembodied, silver-haired head is yelling up at me.

" I swear! Lord Jashin willpunish you!" he screams. "The severest judgement ever dealt by the Church of Jashin-"

"You don't scare me a bit. Neither does your god," I interrupt, having heard enough. "You and me, we believe in different things..." I pause for a moment, remembering what Master Asuma had once told me. "Me, I believe in the will of fire." The Konoha will of fire...exactly what Asuma taught me...and what I shall soon teach to the children of the next generation. I stare back down at the Akatsuki member-Hidan's-blood-splattered head and continue speaking.

"Your god right now isn't that stupid Lord Jashin or anyone else...it's me..." As I speak, I pull out a kunai and tie a paper bomb onto it. "And I'm passing judgement on you!"

Hidan's bloodshot eyes widen in what seems to be terror as I toss the kunai down into the pit. It sticks tight to the rock wall as the bomb reaches its limit and explodes.

"I warned you!" he screeches as rocks and enormous clumps of dirt begin falling onto his dismembered body. "The Church of Jashin willpunish you!" He let out a laugh; the maniacal, crazed laugh of one who is condemned. "Then, I'll be the one passing judgement on you!" Before the rocks cover his face completely, he screams one last threat. "Teeth! That's all I'll need! I'll chew you to bits!"

I don't move, don't even blink as the pit is filled with the falling rocks. I reach into my pouch and pull out a cigarette. As I light it, I think, "It seems that the so-called 'immortal' was in fact mortal."

I raise the cigarette to my lips and inhale, then exhale slowly. I feel a sudden presence next to me and turn my head. One of the deer that roam these woods is standing next to me. It paws at the ground next to the pit, and then looks at me. I reach out and stroke it's neck.

"It's up to you now," I say. "You cannot let him escape. It will be your responsibility. Do this as a favor to me, and to the rest of the Nara Clan."

I put out my cigarette and turn away. Unless the others have finished their fight by now, they will need my help taking down the other Akatsuki. As I walk away, I can't help but smile in satisfaction.

"Master Asuma, you have been avenged."
