Chapter 0 'beginning of understanding'
The Charred Council held great power, it's reach and military power was unparalleled, together the four horsemen were nigh invincible, and this was there downfall. There were only four, only four men capable of policing both the white city and the dark caves, only four men for millions if not billions of lifeforms.
For bigger threats to the truce, high level generals and commanders, the horsemen were potent weapons, but for smaller threats, captains and brigadiers, the horsemen were all but completely ineffective, due to the number of problems, in the time that it took hem to hunt down one captain another 5 or 6 will have broken the truce.
The council foresaw this, and created two new elements to it's army, the first were the compatriots, elite guard for the council, they numbered in the thousands and each was imbued with powers beyond that of the demons or angels, they were tasked with protection of the truce and to enforce the council's will. All of them were experiments by the creator, before improvements took place, these dying experiments were captured and cloned by the council.
The second was a group of six humans, called the mavericks, they were used to eliminate opponents or breakers of the truce, they were named Doubt, Massacre, Lust, Fester, Mention and Grief, and they were rightly feared as the fanatical enforcers of the councils will, ready and willing to kill any that went against the truce.
Doubt was the leader of the group, and could claim to being the best marksman ever, his Rifle, Certainty, could hit a target 3 miles away, Doubt himself was from Athens, and competed in the original Olympics, until the council removed him from the earth.
Massacre was the groups melee fighter, wielding two swords, Slaughter and Carnage, it was claimed he could best a aberration, a demon bred for war and incredibly difficult to even injure, he hailed from Sparta and trained to be part of Leonidas' personal guard, and took part in the battle of Thermopylae, as he died he was chosen by the council to be part of the mavericks.
Lust was a compulsive sex maniac, unknowing of the fact that she came about as the result of a union between and angel and a human, gradually she came to use her body as a weapon, sleeping with men and women before slitting their necks in the morning, in this way she amassed a great fortune, he primary weapons are her two daggers, desire and obsession. She came from the late Roman empire and operated in and around Rome.
Fester was a skilled poisons maker, hailing from renaissance era Venice, where his skills for creating poisons made him famous among the courts and palaces of the day, he fights with both a collection of potions and poisons and his short sword Plague.
Mention worked as the groups spy, and worked as part of the inquisition, in Spain where he spent over 30 years hunting witches to be burnt, when he died he was taken by the council. His weapon is a butterfly knife called credit, he hails from Madrid.
Grief worked as the groups scout and originally worked under Alexander the Great for his Persian campaigns, as the captain of the scouts he was invited to the massive party celebrating Darius's defeat, where he promptly drowned on his own vomit. Grief hailed from Hallicanarsus. He wields two pistols, misery and thorn.
All of them were remade, given augmentations such as Doubt's infamous optical scope and Mention's cloaking ability.
