One

He is my mirror image. All that I am and all that I desire I find in him. We look exactly alike, so that even those who know us well have difficulties telling us apart. Our bodies differ only in the small signs time has seen fit to inflict upon them, but even those differences seem to diminish over time as if even our scars feel the need to be one.

This bond I share with him extends to our minds. It is not that we think only the same thoughts and we may even differ in our opinions from time to time, but I can always tell what he is thinking and I know his feelings as intimately as I know my own. It is for those reasons that we shall never be like two people with different standpoints but will ever be like one person with conflicting thoughts.

For although we live in two bodies we share one spirit.
We are one.

Many would not understand this bond and never realize that the love we feel for each other is but an inevitable consequence of this bond. Loving my brother is not like loving a mate but more akin to loving myself.

When I hold him in my arms and we become one that is when I feel whole. We cannot always be that close. Most of the time we are two separate beings (though never entirely), but in that too I can take comfort, for when we become one again our memories mingle. Who else has the opportunity of living two lives at the same time?

There are no precedents for a bond like ours. Though there have been other twins before us they were not identical. Identical twins, that means that we were once not only one spirit but one body. When "I" was conceived there was no "we" that came later, when we became separate. The one being that we were was divided into two parts.

Still we feel the desire to be one again. That is why I take him into my arms and kiss him and make love to him and he does the same. In those too short moments of our joining we feel as one again and "we" returns to "I". One mind and one body. Those moments cannot last but they bring us comfort. When I spill my seed into him with his name on my lips (Elrohir) and he cries out mine (Elladan) I feel the most complete.

This is an idea I had about what their twin bond could be. I am obviously taking some liberties as I do not know whether Elladan and Elrohir were identical twins and the other sets of twins were not, but I feel that a consequence of the bond portrayed is that identical twins could never be separated and that the death of one would meen the death of the other. Therefore Elrond and Elros could not have been identical.

I feel that with the bond I have described the twins could never take separate mates. Therefore they would likely take one mate (if they find one that suits them) and form a triad.
