The Beginning
They eventually all stepped out of the church and into the light. No fear, no anxiety, no worries, only hope and faith and love.
They were the last to leave, hand in hand, wordlessly, they walked out and let the light envelope them. What they found beyond was nothing unfamiliar, but also nothing like they had seen before. The colors were brighter, the sun warmer, the air fresher. Their eyes were open for the first time, their senses alive in a way that they had never been before. They watched their friends scatter around them, everyone excited to experience this new life, and they smiled, waving them off.
He looked around him, tightening his grip on her hand, and she looked at him, watching the sparkle in his eye and the way his lips were slightly parted as he took in the world around him, the heaven around him, letting it consume him and fill his soul. She tugged his hand slightly and he smiled, "where to now?" he finally said.
She turned to face him, stepping close until their bodies were flush and she whispered, "home."
The ripple of laughter bubbling through his throat sent butterflies to her stomach, and tilted her chin up, inviting him to meet her half way.
