A full moon glinted over the icy forest. Not a bird sang, not a leaf whispered. All was silent as death. A lone wolf stood in the clearing and howled mournfully to the sky. No one answered.

----

A green eye glared into a violet one. Not a breath came from either as they faced off in the battle that would determine their fates.. and the world's as well.

Eileen was small for her age. Though she was 16 years old, she was only about 5 feet tall and she knew she wasn't going to grow anymore. Her long, wavy, red hair went all the way down her back. She glanced in the mirror for only a moment and her sparkling green eyes gazed back at her. In her mind she pleaded with them to reveal their secrets. Who am I? She once again had no answer. The dark night was present in her forest home and the moon shed light on a festival of glowing elven people celebrating the year's end. She had no desire to join in their merry-making. Instead, she whispered to herself dark, magical words that swirled and shivered in the night. From the boughs of her treehouse home, a single shaft began to emerge, and slowly, ever so slowly she grasped the hilt. Then, Eileen went to her desk and picked up a shining blade. She brought it out under the startling moonlight and began to chant silently at first, until it built a spell unheard of in many centuries. The glade below began to shine in the mystical silver light that it emitted. The elven people looked up as their new queen went through the coronation ceremony that hadn't occured for years. But Eileen's mother and father had died after milennia of ruling and their young daughter prepared to take the dangerous blade that would become her scepter and extension of her soul. Eileen grasped the blade of metal from the stars and the hilt of the sacred tree and brought them together with a stunning burst of light that threw her to the ground. One star spiraled down from above and landed lightly by her ear. You must complete all of the ceremonies. Her forest green eyes opened in shock. Mother? What have I forgotten? A light, musical tinkling like a stream fell upon her ears. You must have a King, don't you? Eileen meekly replied, yes mother but whom? The fairy-like star leaned closer. You have always known my dear....

Eileen raised her head and strode with a smooth stride to the ledge of her window. She spread her pure white wings wide and told her people what the star had said. Of her people, their were 3 young men. One was Alistair, who could levitate objects with a single thought. Another was Sahsley, who could mimic the most beautiful of voices. But the last was Midnight, her brother of sorts though they were not related. She knew which one her mother wanted her to marry but never had she anticipated that she might have to. He knew too that they would choose each other in the end, but like her wanted to treasure being friends first. His dark eyes stared into hers and the pain between was more than either could bear. As king and queen they would both be respnsible for their people and they were too young... They would doom their kingdom to its death.

-------
His eyes were the deepest violet as they stares into hers. His decision was already made, but she knew that he had wanted to wait. They were immortal you know, they had plenty of time. But, this was different. If it was not now their kingdom would fail at protecting itself and its people without a strong leader. Eileen was a strong leader and fighter, too. But Midnight and her together would be a dangerous combination. They both dearly loved each other, but were intense rivals. Her kingdom needed peace not competition between its two heads.
