Disclaimer: I don't own Wicked. I never will. If anyone actually thought I did, stop.

AN: This is for Christi because I never would have actually put it up this soon if not for her. Also, thank you and virtual cookies to Carlie for helping me come up with a name for the story, and Tessa for coming up with Shanal Milean. I'm posting this from my mother's computer, because mine was being very uncooperative and I really wanted to get this up before Christi goes home.

Galinda turned the key with a 'click' and opened the door to her dorm room. As she closed the door behind her, she noticed her roommate. Elphaba was sitting on her bed, knees hugged to her chest and her river of hair falling around her face. She was still wearing Galinda's cream Shanal Milean jacket that she'd borrowed that morning.

"Elphie?" At the sound of Galinda's voice, Elphaba's head snapped up; she hadn't heard the door open. "What's the matter?"

Elphaba shied away from her friend, refusing eye contact. "I'm fine, Lin."

Galinda didn't believe that for a moment. She joined her roommate on the bed, draping an arm over her shoulder. "Tell me. Please?" she crooned. Sighing reluctantly, the taller girl picked up a letter from her bedside table and handed it over.

After skimming the page, Galinda let out a squeal. "Oh, Elphie! You're going to meet the Wizard!" Suddenly, she caught that the letter and her friend's behavior did not match up. "Why aren't you happy? This is your dream!"

"I won't be able to see you for two days. I'm leaving Friday evening, and I won't be back until Sunday afternoon." She was lying, and hoped Galinda wouldn't notice.

The blonde girl sighed and hugged her friend closer. "I promise, I'll be okay. There are plenty of people to keep me company here." At that moment, a knock on the door interrupted them. Galinda rose to answer.

"Fiyero, dearest!" she exclaimed upon opening the door. At her roommate's greeting, Elphaba got to her feet and started reorganizing her bookshelf.

"Hello, dear," Fiyero answered, kissing her quickly as he did so. He turned to the taller girl. "Elphaba, I'm glad you got back okay."

She kept her face turned away from him; she would not let him see how her eyes widened at his statement. "I-um…thank you. Did you not trust me to get back by myself?"

That silenced him. Turning back to his girlfriend, he said "Do you want to come with me for dinner?"

Moments later, the happy couple was gone, leaving Elphaba alone. She sighed, moved back to her bed, and hugged a pillow to her chest. "Lin," she whispered to nobody in particular, "If you found out what was truly wrong, you would never forgive me."
