The Inevitable

Disclaimer: I don't own Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or its characters, Infinity Ward and Activision do.
Guess you can say this is a Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare fanfic. More like a tribute.
All I could see was smoke, my body hurt all over, I couldn't feel my arms or legs. Some of the smoke started to dissipate, I couldn't hear anything but a loud annoying ringing in my ear. I could feel a faint heartbeat and my breathing was slow and wavering. While underneath me all I felt was rubble of what seemed concrete, the ringing soon faded away as I heard a radio with only static and inaudible noise. Every once in a while I could hear what appeared to be a helicopter. I looked around, but my field vision was only limited to where my eyes could move to, I couldn't move a single part of my body. All I saw was the remains of a building like an apartment or something, a couple of motionless bodies of familiar figures in U.S. Marines' uniforms, some were friends. I was wearing one as well, an assault rifle laid on my arm didn't notice it until now. The helicopter came by again, louder this time and i heard a voice calling for survivors. I am but a dying soul in a decomposing soon to be corpse, not much of a survivor, can't call to them anyway. I tried to move my head but instead a writhing pain in my neck which normally I would have winced to, but i cant feel my face, I probably did anyway. I took one last look outside a window at the Black Hawk flying away with a search light scanning the city, I then looked at the background, a horror beheld my eyes. Endless fields of corpses, roads filled with wrecked vehicles, flattened buildings whose ruins were torn apart and debris flung everywhere, several more Marines filled the streets, crashed helicopters and humvees and superficially scathed tanks. But what really caught my eye was the pillar of smoke, a mushroom cloud. With the red sky, dark clouds, and scorched corpses and what seemed like an end to civilization. This must be what Hell is like, guess I'll be seeing plenty of that. I closed my eyes, thought about those I left behind, friends, family, co-workers, even my enemies. Thought about my regrets and dreams. There was so much I wanted to do so much I wanted to see, guess this is fate. My heartbeat seemed to halt and my breathing started to slow to a stop. And my vision of darkness faded to white.
These are the Horrors of war, until we see it, only more countless lives will be meaninglessly sacrificed to the flames of war. We shall no longer be that fire's fuel or only more of this will come of it.
