The Best Dream
"You deserve to be happy"
The words flowed into his head as Haruka slept soundly. It was the first time he had slept well in weeks, even if he did cry himself to sleep. Haruka was so riddled with guilt that he barley left his room. The thoughts clouded in his mind untill he thought he couldn't take it anymore. 'I should have got there sooner' 'I should have stopped him'. Just when he thought he would burst those gentle words soothed him to sleep.
His dreams were filled with presence that Haruka had been missing for quite sometime. They were sitting in Haruka's bathroom, he was in the bathtub and Makoto sat on the rim of the tub. "Haru, you must not blame yourself. I'm the one who put myself in danger during that storm, it's not your fault."
"If I had been there sooner this would not have happened." Haruka shifts his gaze to Makoto and reaches out to grab his hand. Makoto gently takes his hand and brings it to his lips.
"Please, Haru. I want you to be happy. You have so much to live for, don't put yourself through this." Makoto pulls Haru up into a loving embrace and kisses the top of his head. "I want you to swim and be free. I want you to go back to school and eat mackerel. Please, for me."
"I'll try." Is all Haru says as he cries on Makoto's shoulder. He know it's a dream. He knows that when he wakes up Makoto won't be there anymore. He will never feel his hand as he pulls him from the water or hear his voice when he swims. Makoto is gone, but so long as he has this dream he may be able to continue with his life. This was the best dream he could ask for, one with all the warmth and passion that was Makoto.
Haruka's thoughts take a different turn as Makoto places his lips over Haru's. The kiss is soft and gentle, but it holds all of their passion.
"I love you"
Haru wakes up with tears still staining his cheeks, he brings his fingers up to his lips. He wants to believe that the dream was real, that Makoto had actually kissed him goodbye. He can still feel the warmth on his lips. Haruka realizes that even if the dream was not real it's still what Makoto would want.
He gets out of bed, for the first time in a while and heads to the shower. As he sits in the steam filled room his gaze wanders over to where Makoto sat. All at once he feels a very warming presence all around him and when it fades Haru sits there with his eyes closed and slowly exhales.
"I love you too, Makoto...always"
