A/N: First TMM fic. It just struck me.

Withdraw

Because honestly, before, you thought that he was really, seriously, worth it.

As worth it as an alien from another planet could ever be to you, in the first place. But he was worth it because you felt the spark, and you know he felt it too. Words never hung between you two, it was your actions.

You lay your delicate pale hand over his, and his eyes would shoot up in alarm. He'd relax, and then your hammering heart would settle down, and all would be well. Just a man and a woman holding hands on a walk, right? Nothing romantic about that whatsoever.

Of course, a boy and girl can never stay friends, isn't that the rule? Your feelings would slowly build up with every skittering touch and every warm smile thrown your way. You loved him. You absolutely loved him like anything in the world.

In a way, he was your other half. He was your solace, he was everything.

The world took for a dramatic turn that cold October evening at the park. But you got apprehensive. You knew something was going to happen, but you couldn't place just what.

But you didn't care. As long as he was with you, you didn't give a single damn.

"I'm going to start seeing Zakuro."

You nodded sightly, your half-lidded lime eyes staring out into the gleaming moon. "What."

You couldn't accept it.

"You didn't hear me?" His elf ears perked a little, the way they did when he was confused, and there was an undoubted spark of remorse in his chocolate orbs you failed to find.

"No, I...um, I-I did. That's fine. I'm happy for you." You grin your most Lettuce-y grin, hoping to the world that he would buy it.

He stares at you for a long time.

Then he leaves.

AHe leaves, taking your heart, dignity, and anything else that he might've shattered along with a few simple words.

A strange emotion explodes inside of you.

And it's so familiar...

Anger.

Bitterness.

So you withdraw.

You withdraw into your cave, and you scold yourself for ever coming out, every giving someone a chance, because it never works out for you.

So a few decades later, you stare with the same blank eyes you had that day, and lean down on his tombstone.

"Goodbye, Pai. I love y-"
