It has been a little over a year since our parents died, a year since that night we became alone in this world, a year since my two older brothers and I had to look out for one another, a year since Darry started to grow old in what seems like hours, it is now Mothers Day. A day to respect our mothers and show them how much we care, but how can someone do that when their mother is gone?

Well, Darry is, for once, not working. He wants to stay home and make sure my second oldest brother and I, Sodapop, are OK. Soda is out with Steve and said he won't be back till later. Darry didn't complain, he understands. And me, well I am doing what 'I do best' write.

"Pony, I am heading to get diner for tonight. Do you want to go?"

"Can I stay home Darry?"

"Yeah, just be good."

"Thank you."

I hear the front screen door slam and seconds later I hear Darry's old Ford drive away from our house. My as well give this a shot.

MOM

For bringing us into this world and for putting up with us, you are strong.

We are sorry for all the times you were right and we were wrong.

I still wish I knew why you went away,

But I do know we will see you again someday.

I wish I could tell you one more time how much you meant to me, to us,

You taught us to be thankful and to not fuss.

I love you Mother and I also want to say,

Even though you are in heaven, Happy Mothers Day.

There, if the guys saw this I know they would laugh but I wonder, what will Darry and Soda think about it? Might as well get the humiliation over with.
