Mikasa tossed and turned under her blankets. The fourteen-year-old cadet had been trying desperately to get some sleep, but just couldn't seem to close her eyes. For a strange reason, she felt like a caged, small bird, longing for freedom. She had been having that strange feeling a lot lately, followed by a strange sense of loneliness. She couldn't stand this room; it made her feel so little and had an eerie silence to it, doing nothing to comfort her.

Ever since Carla died, Eren had changed completely. His anger was burning him up inside, making him lose sense of himself, and seem not to care about everyone and everything else, including Mikasa.

Still, she followed him. He was her family now, but…

Did he even care that she was there? Would it matter to him if she left him? Would he even notice?

Mikasa shook her head. Of course he would. He cared, even if it was hard to tell sometimes.

Mikasa sighed. What was happening to Eren? Was it anything she could help with? She didn't know, and didn't know if she would ever know.

Mikasa sat up and leaned up against the wall, tangling her hand in her silky black hair. She wasn't sure how much sleep she was going to be getting this night, or if she would be getting any at all, but she knew for sure that it would be hard to sleep when you're worried for the person you love the most's mental state. Eren was really stressing her, and she knew that she should talk to him about it, but he probably just push her away like he always does.

And Mikasa knew why.

Eren was breaking inside. He was having a very hard time coping with losing his family, and probably didn't know how to handle that.

Mikasa pulled her scarf over her nose. She would never forget what losing your family feels like. But she would never forget when Eren taught her everything she knows, and brought her back to life, stronger than she ever was.

Mikasa wondered if Eren wasn't considering was the fact that Mikasa was his family, Armin too, so he still had family left.

Mikasa buried her head in her hands, letting out a deep breath.

It was going to be a long night.
