Theme 94 in the 4th version of the 100 Themes Challenge (deviantART)
Shortly after Al returned from the East and himself from the West, Edward decided to re-propose to Winry. That scene at the train station couldn't really be called a proposal; he didn't even use a ring. He figured she deserved to be properly asked. The only problem was, he didn't know how to properly ask her! So, he went to his younger brother, as he often did when he needed advice, and asked him what he should do. As Edward was expecting, Al was willing to help and quickly thought of an idea.
"Why don't you practice on me?" He asked his older brother. His methods of trying to help Edward speak from his heart weren't working, so Al thought if Ed were to pretend he was actually proposing to Winry, it might help.
"Practice on you? Like, fake propose to you? But that'd be…weird." Ed said. Just thinking about kneeling in front of his little brother with a ring felt awkward.
Al chuckled, "Pretend I'm Winry."
Ed sighed, starting to kneel down in front of his brother. This is how people propose, right? "Okay, I'll try it."
Down on one knee in front of Al, Ed looked up at him and tried to picture him as Winry. Finding this near impossible while looking at his younger brother, Ed closed his eyes instead. Without Al distracting him, Edward's photographic mind was easily able to imagine his beautiful soon-to-be wife standing in front of him.
The older Elric was silent for a few moments as he tried to figure out how to start. He knew this would be difficult; he was never good at putting his thoughts and feelings into words. It would be so much easier if I could just chuck the ring at her and be done with it. he thought, staring at the diamond ring tucked safely inside the box in his hand.
Taking a deep breath, he opened his mouth to speak, only to be interrupted by the door opening. Pinako Rockbell stuck her head in the room.
"Boys, dinner's almost-" she started, and then stopped when she saw Ed kneeling down in front of Al with ring. "...What on earth are you boys doing?" Ed jumped up quickly and both brothers quickly tried to explain the awkward situation.
"T-this isn't what it looks like!" Ed stuttered.
"We were just-" Al started, but Pinako cut him off.
"Just stop, I don't even want to know. Come to the table, dinner's almost ready." With that, she simply turned and left.
Edward glanced at his brother, red in the face and looking embarrassed. Al just shrugged; he, too, looked a little embarrassed, though his eyes held a hint of amusement, a ghost of a smile was barely visible on his lips.
And as they walked out of the room together, Ed could have sworn he heard Alphonse giggle.
Hey :)
I haven't posted anything on here in awhile, so I decided to doll up this little one-shot I posted on dA a while back, and post it here. I had written it for the 100 Theme Challenge (the 4th variation) that I'm doing on deviantART, the theme being "Misunderstanding". I originally had this idea a long, long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away) before I discovered FMA and was a Dragonball fanatic. I think back then it was Gohan asking Bulma for advice and practice-proposing to her, then Vegeta walked in. XD But I'm not sure, all I remember was it was Gohan needing help with proposing to Videl.
Anyways, I hoped you liked this teeny thing :D If you did, feel free to review and check out other stories. Oh, and if you're curious, my deviantART account is the same as here: DBZfangurl47.
