The mutant resistance was all but dead. Mutants had been forced to the brink of extinction by politics; hate groups, Exioms and the now deceased Avengers. Namor had taken Storm back to Atlantis. Basilisk, Frenzy, Psylocke and Iceman had all gone into hiding. That left Cannonball, Gambit and Hellion to help Franklin Richards break his father, Reed, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm out of prison.
With Gambit's expertise as an ex-thief and Franklin's invisibility it was relatively easy to sneak into the prison. Gambit went to free Ben, Hellion went to free Reed and Cannonball went to free Johnny. Franklin snuck into the security office to monitor their progress and warn them of any approaching dangers.
Gambit found Ben Grimm in an empty cell with thick walls and door. Ben was on his knees in the middle of the room with large shackles on his hands and feet. There was also a sensory deprivation helmet over his eyes and ears and a large weighted plate on his back. His orange stone skin looked a bit worse for wear. Gambit removed the sensory helmet first.
"Bonjour, mon ami. Let's get you out of this thing." Gambit then proceeded to hack the electronic locks that held Ben's hands and feet and lift the weight from his shoulders. Ben blinked at the man before him.
"The name's Gambit and I'm breaking out of this gulag." Ben looked at Gambit, judging from his eyes the man was a mutant. Then he remembered he had a voice.
"Reed, Johnny…"
"Other's are freeing them as we speak, let's go." Ben slowly rose to his feet as Gambit checked to make sure the coast was clear.
Hellion found Reed in a cell that seemed to be more of a freezer. Hellion switched off the industrial air conditioner. He then released Reeds restraints and grabbed Reed with his gauntlets, carrying him out of the cell.
Cannonball found Johnny in a cell with automatic fire extinguishers. Johnny had scars that spoke of experiments and possibly torture. Sam managed to release Johnny from the restraints and carried him out of the cell.
Franklin watched as his family was freed. The guards lay on the ground unconscious. Once they were freed, he rushed to meet them.
